After months of speculation it has finally been confirmed, Howard Stern is the new judge on the NBC America's Got Talent competition show. Stern will be replacing Piers Morgan who recently got a new gig with CNN for his own talk show, taking over the old Larry King spot.

NBC must have really wanted Stern because they are moving the show from Los Angeles to New York so that Stern would not need to travel or disrupt his current SiriusXM satellite radio show. In the video clip below Stern reveals that he is not a fan of all of the kids on the show nor of some acts such as "Sinatra impersonators" which is in reference to the last season.

Up until now America's Got Talent has been seen favorably by viewers as a family friendly show; with Stern now as a judge there is sure to be some upset fans.

NBC has hired Howard Stern as the new judge of the summer competition series America’s Got Talent.

The broadcaster announced Thursday morning that the popular radio shock-jock will critique its eclectic talent show, replacing Piers Morgan, who left to focus on his CNN interview program.

Production on Got Talent will move to New York City, where Stern will continue to conduct his SiriusXM radio program (so not only did Stern get the job, he got the whole show to come to him).

“Howard Stern’s larger-than-life personality will bring a thrilling new dynamic to America’s Got Talent starting this summer,” explained NBC alternative programming head Paul Telegdy. “He’s a proven innovator and his track record in broadcasting is truly remarkable. Howard is very passionate about this show and is fully committed to its future success.”

Stern’s name has been batted around for broadcast reality shows before (there was a rumor he was once considered for American Idol), but the question has been whether advertisers would be put-off by the inclusion of the irrepressible radio host.

On his radio show, Stern said: “I take judging very seriously … in order to up my credibility, I will wear a suit.” Watch Stern announce and celebrate the deal on his show.

who is howard stern?
Oh, that makes me feel old. :(

At one time Howard Stern was a hugely popular host of a syndicated radio show that was broadcast in several major markets for nearly 20 years. He ruled the morning radio ratings in almost every market that he was in. With a reputation for what could be quite raunchy skits he had a huge fan base including celebrities. Several years ago, after a contract dispute with the company that producing his radio show, he jumped ship from public radio to satellite radio, Sirius to be specific. His new contract with Sirius was worth hundreds of millions of dollars and was responsible for saving the company since many of his radio fans signed up as new paying customers with Sirius in order to continue hearing his show. On satellite radio his shows gotten even more explicit since he was no longer restricted to the same rules as public broadcast radio; it is the same reason why cable TV shows can get away with more explicit content then broadcast TV shows.

So to make a long story short... :p He is a radio talk show host known more for his very adult oriented explicit bits which is a total opposite of the family friendly fare that America's Got Talent is currently known for.

Fast forward a few years and Howard Stern is leaving to be replaced by.... Simon Cowell, formerly of American Idol. That'll help with their ratings for a bit, if nothing else.
