~Part 101~
~“Not The Couch”~
Immediately upon arriving back at Eric’s apartment, Sydney started to call her family to tell them the good news, that finally after two previous engagements they were getting married. She wasn’t going to let anyone ruin this for her, especially not her father, who had come to dislike Vaughn once again because of his involvement in almost getting Sydney killed.
After Vaughn had died Sydney had told them everything. She told them about what had happened after his bar had burned down, how he had touched her. But she also explained the lengths he went to prove to her it wouldn’t happen again, how he had been seeking help for his emotional pain and anger.
She told them about almost being raped, and everything that happened up until the moment he left for all those years. She couldn’t keep any of it to herself, she knew it. So she just decided to get it off her chest so if she ever did need to talk to someone she could.
Most of her family was reluctant to send out their congratulations. They still thought that everything was moving too fast. But to Sydney it wasn’t. She’d known Vaughn for almost four years, and she hadn’t fallen out of love with him once.
She tried to convince them that she really didn’t love Pete, that she loved him in her mind but her heart still belonged to one man and it always would. She thought very hard about everything before she had called it quits with her previous fiancée. She knew Pete could give her a good life, a normal life, but she’d never be happy enough.
Even when she went through the absolutely low points in her relationship with Vaughn she didn’t regret loving him. She knew things would always look up, and when they did she’d be truly happy. She’d never felt such a happiness before with anyone. The way he made her laugh, smile, joke. She felt free with him, like she didn’t have to pretend to be anyone else. She could say anything in front of him, even something so absurd that it would make other people wonder about her sanity. It was hard to explain, he just understood her like that.
She knew people thought that they were insane, that they wouldn’t last. Heck, she was sure people in her family felt the same way. She was ready for a bet to come out.
How long before these two get divorced?
But she was determined to beat the odds. People saw how they acted around eachother in public and with friends. But they had no real idea how he made her feel when no one was around. She was so content with just him that she felt like she never had to leave the house again. Like she could break all contact with everyone and she’d still be perfectly happy. And it was because of him.
Sydney plopped down on the couch about an hour later. She dropped her phone next to her and cuddled into her soon-to-be-husbands side as he flipped through channels on the big screen TV.
“How’d it go?” He asked. “You seemed rather annoyed when you were talking to your parents.”
“Yeah, well they’re my parents. They think this is a stupid idea. My father threatened not to come, and I told him I would never forgive him if he didn’t. I think I made him feel guilty.” She said rather excited.
He laughed with her but stopped his chuckling at her next suggestion.
“I think we should go spend Christmas with my parents.” She said.
“You know, it was three years ago at this time that you suggested the same thing? It was on this couch too. You remember what happened don’t you?” He asked.
“Vaughn…my parents need to trust you again. They need to see how happy we are to be together. They need to see that we’re serious about this.” She told him.
“Sydney, I can see it already. We walk up the front steps and your dad comes out and chases me around the property with a 12-gauge. I do value my life, I want to live long enough to marry you this time.” He said.
She turned towards him slightly, shifting her body to face him and tucking her right leg under her body.
“Please?” She asked as her finger ran across the side of his cheek. “Do it for me?” She asked with a soft gaze.
Vaughn fell for it and looked into her eyes. He rolled his own eyes and groaned.
“Gosh damn it! I hate it when you do this!” He exclaimed.
“What!?” She asked.
“That.” He said pointing to her face. He twirled his finger around as he looked for the right words. “That damn…look! You always do this when you want me to do something. You say do it for me because you know that I can’t say no to that, because then I’ll feel like I let you down. I’m not falling for it this time. I’m telling you no.” He crossed his arms at his chest and stared forward. “It’s not fair.”
Sydney smiled softly as she watched him pout. “I can make it fair.” She told him as she shifted on the couch once again. She threw her left leg over his lap and strattled him.
“Uh-uh! Don’t think you can try to seduce me now, because it is NOT going to work.” He said as he wouldn’t look at her.
“It’s been two weeks, I know you can’t hold out much longer.” She said as she started kissing his ear.
“I can hold out as long as it takes for me to not go to your parent’s house. I’d rather go without sex than be killed and broiled for Chirstmas dinner by your father.”
“It’s not like you can turn me down right now.” She said. “You don’t really have a choice.” She told him as she started to unbutton his shirt. She slid her hand inside, making contact with his warm skin.
“You’re horny aren’t you?” He asked her. “This is what this about? It’s not about seduction. You just want to get laid!”
Sydney plucked one of his chest hairs out between her fingers and he squirmed.
“OW! What the hell?”
“Be nice.” She warned him. “I don’t like when you’re mean.”
“I’m not being mean.” He laughed in disbelief.
“Fine, you know what, forget it.” She said as she started to get off of him. Vaughn immediately wrapped his arm around her waist and kept her in his lap. She looked back at him.
“Oh, changing our mind are we?” She asked.
“Oh shut up.” He told her.
“Shut up? That’s not very nice.”
“Do you want to try going another two weeks without me?” He asked her.
“Well if it comes to that then I think I’ll have to start having an affair with Bob at the hardware store. He seems to like me.” She said.
“Wait, who’s Bob? He’s been hitting on you?” He asked slightly jealous and protective.
She laughed. She was only kidding of course, there was no Bob.
“Yeah, I went in to buy paint the other day and he asked me what I was wearing.” She lied.
“What!? That a**hole!”
She laughed as she unbuttoned the rest of his shirt and slipped it off.
“He meant perfume dumba**.” She said. She kissed his neck.
“I’m gonna kill him.” He told her.
“Mm…” She pulled back slightly and looked at his hat. “Can we?” She asked as she slipped the edges of her fingers under his knit hat. His mood changed slightly and he was silent for a moment. Even around her he was embarrassed to show his head.
She gave him a sympathetic look.
“Vaughn, it doesn’t bother me.” She told him. “But if you’re more comfortable with it on, I’ll leave it.” She said.
He was silent for another moment and she got the hint. She removed her hands from his hat and instead framed his face. She kissed the part of his forehead that was still exposed.
Another moment later and his hands came up to his own head. She watched him as he pulled off the hat and dropped it behind the couch. She smiled softly and ran her hand over his now soft stubbly head.
Soon enough they got back to their previous engagements, forgetting about his shaved head, and her parent’s house. That is, until the front door to the apartment opened about fifteen minutes later.
The couple was unbothered until they heard the voice of their friend and the owner of the couch that they were currently taking their two weeks of not being together on.
“Oh god!” Eric quickly pushed Nicole out the front door when he saw what was going on in his living room.
Sydney and Vaughn both immediately looked at eachother.
“I swear to god, you two little bunnies better get in the bedroom! Gosh! The couch? It’s my couch guy’s! MINE! And now I have to by a new one because you two are…ew! Just ewwwww!!! Everyone sits on that couch!”
“Are they…” Nicole hadn’t seen anything. Eric had pushed her out to fast.
“Yes, and on the COUCH!” Eric yelled back through the door.
“Just give us ten more minutes!” he heard Vaughn’s voice from inside.
“NO! It’s my couch dude! My couch! DUDE!”
Sydney and Vaughn tried to control their laughter as she got off of him. She picked up their clothes from around the couch and ran into the bathroom.
“Five more minutes?” Vaughn asked. He was playing with Eric more than anything now.
“Dude…I’m going to kick you a** if I have to sterilize that couch!”
Vaughn bit his lip as he stood up and ran down the hallway and into the bathroom with Sydney.
A few minutes later Eric peaked his head in to make sure the coast was clear. He then opened the door and walked inside. Him and Nicole walked around quietly.
“I think they left.” He said.
“Left where you genius? There’s only one door.” She smacked him upside the head.
“See, that’s why I keep saying stupid things. You keep smacking me and I lose 5 brain cells every time you pull that shi*.” He said.
“Shut up.” She told him.
“I have to pee.” He said as he walked toward the bathroom. He went to open the door but it was quickly kicked closed before he could open it six inches. Eric heard laughing from inside the bathroom.
“Ugh! Guy’s, do you ever stop!? This is indecent now! Come on already, I have to pee!”
“Just hold it.” Vaughn said from the other side of the door. Sydney giggled. The truth was, now they were just playing with Eric. Both of them were getting dressed behind the closed door. Vaughn nodded to her and she moaned his name. Sydney started cracking up silently, almost falling off the edge of the sink as the vein in her forehead popped out and her face turned red.
Vaughn put a hand over her mouth to keep her from laughing too loud.
“Shh…” He laughed.
“I can’t believe this. My own place and I’m being shut down.” Eric shook his head and walked toward the fire escape.
“Where are you going?” Nicole asked.
“I have to pee.” Eric said as he walked by. “And don’t sit on the couch!”
