Hopefully there are at least a few nods to the original movie
So many it makes you choke on them.
This is not a reboot it is a continuation. It also sets us up for an additional movie if they choose. It's not a loose end, its a blatant in your face hint of another movie. A Dino-war movie if the hint is the premise.
One thing that got on my nerves is that god-awful theme song. It worked for the first movie but none of the others. It worked in the first to give a sense of Awe. Now it is old and tired.
I just saw the movie in 3d and for the life of me I can't recall many of the scenes before the dinos. That's about 1/3 of the movie. I also felt the ending is lame. Felt like the T-Rex & Raptor were saying "Lets all be friends" or something.
The middle third and the beginning of the last third are everything I had hoped for and more. The creatures were really cool looking and their 'acting' rivaled the human actors.
I found the CGI attention to detail to be absolutely wonderful. I pulled my attn off the main sequence to look at the background and it was detailed, fully rendered and fit the scene.
Example: A steggy watching the action off in the distance.
While we did get to see some humans being munched most of the graphic gory details happened off screen, Just like in every other JP movie.
You knew who was gunna get chomped and who wasn't,
Just like in every other JP movie.
The water glass vibration was replaced with a cell phone as with many other ...'substitutions' of the original movie.
You knew what was going to happen but when it does it looks cool as hell.
The Mozzy was a wonderful treat. We don't see enough movies with a Mozzy in them. Those were incredible creatures. They even got the size about right.
The Raptors were okay, They managed to portray them with personalities even if they were superficial ones. It worked for the story.
T-Rex was awesome as usual. Till the end of the final conflict then it went all stupid.
The Modified Rex, of which the movie follows, was fearsome and smart. I felt the part where his design is dialoged was not needed and actually slowed the pace a little. A Little. That thing was simply bad-assed!
The Birdys were a non-reaction for me. Except the big one you get a glimpse of. There were some Birdys that had the head of a T-Rex or something, Never really got a 'good' look at them but the few glimpses were pretty cool.
The other dinos made brief appearances and the gyro-ball soccer scene was funny.
I liked the movie. If you like the Jurassic Park movie franchise you probably will too. If you want a backstory to dinosaurs you won't get much from it. This is eye candy pure and simple.
It was $23 for two admission. I think it was worth it.
