All of the non-sports programming ABC had on the Top 20 shows list for the week of 09/27/04 - 10/03/04 consisted of new scripted dramas.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (the show in Alias' time slot until January) was the #1 show of any kind of the week on any network, with a 13.6/20.0 rating/share and 21,645,000 viewers.

LOST (JJ Abrams' new show) was the #7 regularly scheduled non-sports program and the #9 program of any kind of the week on any network, with a 10.5/17.0 ratings/share and 17,004,000 viewers.

BOSTON LEGAL, another new ABC show and spin-off of "The Practice" was the #16 regularly scheduled non-sports program and #20 overall program of the week on any network, with a 8.6/15.0 ratings/share 9,480,000 viewers.

These numbers aren't inherently bad for Alias. These shows, especially Desperate Housewives (since it will hand over its timeslot to Alias come January), could provide a base to promote Alias to. However, these numbers also give Alias higher expectations and leave ABC less desperate for Alias’ loyal but not-that-large audience.

thats the thing ... if DHW is working for them, they need to do the promotion for "Alias" during the time-slot ... even if it means that they could, and I am saying could, move the show to another night ... ;)
