GAITHERSBURG, Md., Sep 15, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simutronics today announced the latest release of HeroEngine, the leading collaborative development platform for massively multiplayer online (MMO) games and virtual worlds.
As the premiere integrated platform for full life-cycle development, deployment, and maintenance of MMO games and virtual worlds, HeroEngine provides creative teams with the tools and technology they require in order to fulfill their vision while reducing time to market and lowering costs.
According to Simutronics CEO and HeroEngine Architect David Whatley, "Teams that use HeroEngine can develop their MMO games and virtual worlds faster than ever before with our unique realtime and collaborative features, and reduce their operating costs with fine grained control over exactly what data is communicated between servers and clients."
Among the major new features which reduce operating costs are new automatic data replication, object spatial awareness, and bandwidth shaping systems. Working together, these systems reduce and minimize the communications traffic based on both automatic and goal-based metrics.
Adding to HeroEngine's full-featured rapid prototyping and collaborative development environment, new realtime pathfinding means no more waiting for offline processing which could take hours or days to complete. Paths are now generated and available for use by game or artificial intelligence (AI) systems in realtime during development or even in live game worlds as pathability changes.
The latest version of HeroEngine also includes a number of other significant improvements including the ability to selectively move data between live running virtual worlds without shutting the worlds down, full international character rendering support, new environmental sculpting tools, and new weather features with clouds and atmospheric effects such as lightning.
Available immediately, HeroEngine continues to lead the way in providing creative teams with the best in class collaborative tools, technology, and platform they require in order to execute their vision.

I don't think they can say that Hero Engine allows MMOs to be created in record time when their own MMO isn't even close to being done...

Their HE website isn't updated with the new and improved features yet ><

Maybe it is record time for them. To think it might have taken significantly longer without it. :O

I think it's also because they spent much of their time designing the engine. If they had started with the engine completed already and had been working only on the game I'm sure it would be done by now.
