Politics Shooting in Atlanta

A guy opened fire in a courtroom and killed the judge, a deputy and a reporter, and injured another deputy.

He's now on the run, and they don't know where he is. They've locked down the public schools in Atlanta, and other states have gotten involved.

It's really kinda scary.

Never mind. You answered my question. I'm surprised my mom hasn't told me. Usually when stuff like this happens she's watching it on TV. Either her or my brother.

I've been glued to it. Every cable news stations has been covering it since it first happened at like 9 this morning.

America has to take guns out of the public domain ie, very strict gun control, if it wants to stop stuff like this happening in the future. Guns in the hands of inexperienced people/general public=big trouble. It seems that America has not learnt a damm thing about gun control despite such tragic events as the Columbine high school massacre and Waco.

I completely agree. But the gun that he took belonged to a Sheriff's Deputy, not just someone in the general public.

This raises an issue of guns in the courtroom, and the fact that a female was escorting him. I'm a female and truly believe that we can do anything that males can do. But honestly, this guy is 6'1 and 210 pounds, I'm sorry but someone my size (5'4ish and 110 pounds) would not stand a chance if he wanted to over power me. A male guard probably should've been escorting him.

I agree completely and I also am against the NRA...and guns in general for that matter.

But it doesn't really apply to this situation. The gun that was used, was taken from an officer, not a member of the general public.

proper police procedure would have dictated that they search the atlanta parking garage where he carjacked the honda accord
which would have led them to the car one deck below where he took
it
which would have prompted them to look at security cameras
which would have revealed his having left the garage
on foot friday night
and which may have led them to look at the trains
and may have saved the life of the customs agent
he took on saturday morning...
these are basic procedures
which must be followed or people are endangered
to say nothing of the women
whom he took hostage
and could have killed

True. Although I'm unsure of how easy it is to access security cameras, and also it isn't exactly logical to search for the stolen car where it was stolen...Am I understanding you right?

They had accessed security cameras that afternoon, just assumed he had been in the green honda...which was still in the parking garage.

You'd think that the police would've throughly searched the parking garage. A general person called the police late the night it happened to say that the car in question was still in the garage and hadn't been moved. So here for over 12 hours the police had been telling the public to be on the lookout for this car when it had been sitting in the parking garage.

This incident has raised a lot of questions...not just of having guns in the courtroom or having suspects in shackles...but of how the police force handled the situation.

cnn had several law enforcement officers on
last night stating all i've just said
that they should have sealed off the garage
and searched it thoroughly
and police could ask turner security for the cameras easily
and they would have viewed them 15 hours earlier than they did
