A common complaint against XenForo that I have come across is that the response time for the pop-up windows. For example, when browsing the forums the thread preview pop-up has a slight hesitation before loading. There is an easy solution for that. ;)

On a per style basis you can adjust the settings for how fast certain elements are displayed. In particular there are two types of pop-up windows used, standard CSS based tooltips and XF "overlay" displays. The tooltips are used in places like the thread preview when you hover over the thread title and for the forum descriptions when you hover over the forum name. The overlay displays are used, by default, for items such as the membercard display when you click on a user name and when you click on pages like the "Contact Us" link.

To adjust the speed of the tooltips, go into your XenForo ACP and select...
Appearance => Styles => {Style Name} => Style Property Groups => General
On that page you will see an option for "Enable Animations, Using Multiplier" with a check box and a text box. In the text box you can change the value higher to slow down the animations or a lower value to speed up the animations. If you turn off the check box then the animations will be disabled entirely.

To adjust the speed of the overlay pages displaying, go into your XenForo ACP and select...
Appearance => Styles => {Style Name} => Style Property Groups => Overlays and Tooltips
On that page you will see two options, "Overlay Opening Speed" & "Overlay Closing" speed near the bottom of the screen. This allows you to independently set how fast the pages are displayed when the links to display them are clicked and how fast the pages are displayed when the overlay page is closed. You can change the value higher to slow down the display or use a lower value to speed up the display. Using a value of zero ("0") will disable the animation entirely when opening or closing the overlay page.

The important thing to remember is that these settings only affect the speed of the various pop-up windows used in XenForo, they will not make your site run any faster than it already is. Your users will have the impression of faster response times but if your XenForo installation is slow then you need to work on improving your server settings.
