Chapter 29

“You’re what?!” Sydney nearly choked on her coke.

“I know, it’s nuts…but I…I’m falling in love with you” Vaughn told her.

“You shouldn’t be” Sydney shook her head.

“Why not?” Vaughn leaned forward, stroking her cheek gently.

“Because I always fall for the ones I can’t have” Sydney smiled softly, “And I didn’t think I could have you”

“You can” Vaughn gave her a small smile.

“Vaughn” Sydney whispered.

“Just…go with it” Vaughn shrugged, “Let it happen”

“I don’t know if I know how to do that” Sydney admitted with a smile.

“Well I don’t either” Vaughn laughed, “So I guess we’re figuring it out together”

“Sounds good” Sydney smiled gently, “You know what’s kinda funny?”

“What?” Vaughn looked at her, his eyes sparkling.

“Well, however far this goes…I already know all of your annoying quirks” Sydney laughed.

“I have annoying quirks?!” Vaughn put his hands over his chest dramatically.

“Yes, you do” Sydney laughed.

“I’m so…insulted”

“Shut up” Sydney hit his chest lightly.

“Oh, so we’re already abusing the boyfriend eh?” Vaughn grabbed Sydney’s arm and pulled her towards him jokingly.

“Maybe” Sydney nodded as he put his arms around her, holding her body to his chest. “Is that okay with you?”

“I like it” Vaughn held her, “But only on you”

“Good” Sydney felt herself relax as his arms held her. It was a feeling of safety that she could never remember feeling with past boyfriend, not even after years of dating, but with Vaughn, she felt it instantly, “Thank you”

“I know” Vaughn kissed her forehead gently, “Me too”

“Morning” Vaughn practically bounced down the stairs, “You have Liz?”

“Yep” Sydney nodded to the little girl who was standing next to her in the kitchen, her head didn’t even come close to reaching the counter and she was therefore hidden from her father, “She’s helping with breakfast”

“Oh” Vaughn smiled as he walked over and lifted Liz up, “Morning Lizzy”

“Mowning” Liz giggled as Vaughn set her down on the counter.

“Are you helping Syd with breakfast?” Vaughn asked her.

“Yaaa” Liz smiled, “Me make bwekfest”

“Yes you are” Sydney smiled and rubbed Liz’s hair, “We need to do your hair later babes”

“Ota” Liz nodded.

“Morning” Vaughn smiled at Sydney.

“Morning” Sydney smiled back at him.

“Good sleep?” Vaughn asked her.

“The best” Sydney nodded as she put the knife she was buttering toast with down, “And you?”

“It was good” Vaughn nodded as he kissed her gently, “Could have been better”

“Oh yeah?” Sydney laughed.

“Yeah” Vaughn smiled, “I was lonely”

“Well, maybe tonight you’ll have some company” Sydney winked.

“Is that a promise?” Vaughn kissed her again.

“Maybe” Sydney smiled against his lips.

“Eewwwy! Kissy!” Liz squealed and interrupted their embrace.
