I haven't read all of the past 15 pages worth of discussion, so if I've repeated something... my bad.
REASONS WHY I BELIEVE MICHAEL VARTAN IS NOT LEAVING ALIAS:
1) When important spoilers are MASSIVE, we ussually get a HINT (not the whole thing!) of what it is, and usually it comes from an actor. Remember Kevin Weissman and his "the last line is gonna blow you away" remark?
2) I know J.J. loves the relationship between Sydney and Vaughn. He painstakingly developed it.
I also know that, as creator, he would have some say in killing off Vaughn, and who here thinks J.J.'s soft little heart would've authorized that?
3) The Boston Whatever says that there's some conflict between Vartan and Garner and Affleck, and that the conflict led him to the door. How many times has Vartan said he's okay with Garner? How many times have we been assured of a friendly zone between those two? Why are we believing such cr@p, then?
4) The person who started this discussion said something along the lines of having known the spoiler for a while, and then being allowed to disclose it. No show wants spoilers wrecking havoc on their potential ratings. Because if you know what's going to happen, you're not gonna watch the show. So who gave permission to disclose the spoiler? Hmm. Somethin's smellin' rotten. I say, the writers (or the producer, or the network) is INTENTIONALLY spreading these rumors. Why?
Because they want to divert us from the truth of what's really going to happen! It must be bigger than this teeny, manipulable spoiler.
5) The writers created the background for Vaughn. They changed his name. They looked up a suitable name for his character. They went through all that trouble of setting up everything and saving him from the deathly accident. Why kill him an episode later? Am I supposed to believe that they came up with all this brilliance of a background of what he's been doing that pretty much ties up a lot of Alias' mysteries, and that they're going to just leave it as is and bury it? Highly doubtful.
6) The optional storyline is that Syd's going to be investigating Vaughn's killer. Hmm. That sounds kinda trite, no? We know Alias writers can do better than that. Investigating a loved one's murder, when was that done before? Oh, yeah! Color Blind! I'm not buying the lack of creativity. Alias writers are known for their twist!
7) ALIAS WRITERS ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR TWISTS! They have coniving minds!
For now, that's about all I can come up with. Pretty long list if you don't look at the numbers.
How funny would it be if all these reasons went down the drain the minute Vaughn dies in the premiere? (hehe; I'm contradicting myself; I'm sorry, I can't help it!)
Now, by law (not really, but how cool does that sound?), I'm forced to admit the following:
Take note of my username; not only am I crazy, I'm also conspiracy theorist #1!
So there you have it...
