Episode Nine – Mea Culpa No, Sydney is (obviously) not dead! She survives her fall by some how becoming tangled in the rungs of the ladder. When she is back on the ground she is unable to contact SD-6. In order to get Dixon to a hospital she uses a CIA satellite phone. She can only wonder if Dixon heard her calling. Later Sydney goes on a mission to Tuscany to steal Ineni Hassan’s offshore accound numbers from his accountant. Hassan had somehow betrayed SD-6, so Sloane wants to freeze the weapon master’s accounts. As a test, Sloane orders Sydney assassinated on a line which the CIA accepts. Agent Vaughn wub wants to use a team that he has ready to protect Sydney. But then Jack explains to him that Sloane is just testing Sydney and if she was backed-up then he would kill her. So Agent Vaughn stays back and Sydney gets through just fine, leaving Sloane with the belief that she is a loyal operative. Will goes to visit his friend that told him about the pin in Ms. Kurtz’s car. His tech friend tells him that the pin is a listening device which is still on. Will talks into the pin as to contact the person on the other end. Later on, Will is contacted on the phone by a mystery man, and given a tape recording of Ms. Kurtz’s murder. Next, SD-6 finds out that they have only received part of the numbers of Hassan’s account. Sydney (with Agent Ernesto Russek from SD-6) go to Geneva to get a hold of the rest of the numbers. No problems occur, and Sydney beams to codes to SD-6 and the CIA. Unfortunately, Marshall notices the transmission to the CIA and reports it to Agent Dreyer. Dreyer is convinced that Sydney is the mole, so he gets Sloane to order her captured after she visits Dixon in the hospital.
