[Chapter 4]

After the magazine fiasco, Michael accepted that Sydney and he were just not meant to be. Sure, he was attracted to her, but their relationship would be just too messy - if they ever would have had one.

Almost everyone knew his name; Sydney was unknown and wanted to stay that way.

Plus, they wanted different things in life. Michael had inferred that just from talking to her for a few hours in a bar.

He was okay with this. In fact, Michael believed it was a good thing she kicked him out that night.

Michael definitely did not need a girlfriend right now.

Sydney didn’t have that same clarity. She, too, wasn’t ready for a relationship, but she felt like she got short-ended in her extremely short relationship with Michael.

Sydney had all these feelings and emotions for him bottled up, and she would have loved to have a chance to explore them, but instead, she was too afraid of the risk and kept them all closed up.

It didn’t help her, being stuck on bed rest from the flu, unable to move. So she was stuck with her thoughts, which often were of him, even three weeks later.

But who could blame her? She had a one night stand with one of the most famous men on the planet. There weren’t a whole lot of women that got to say that.

“Syd, you okay?” Nadia asked, knocking on the open door once, before walking totally into the room. Sydney opened her mouth to speak, but Nadia held up her hand to stop her, “That’s okay, don’t talk.

“Mom sent soup.” Nadia smiled, handing Sydney a Tupperware container full of chicken and noodles. Sydney smiled at her younger sister. “I can’t stay long,” Nadia continued, “’Cause I have to go to class,” she paused for a dramatic eye roll.

Sydney waved her off, silently telling her that she didn’t have to stay. “Oh yeah,” Nadia added, before leaving. “Mom also said to tell you that you need to quote ‘stop being so damn stubborn and go to the doctor already’.”

Sydney rolled her eyes. “Love ya, Sis. Bye.” Nadia called out, before leaving.

Sydney had heard the whole ‘Doctor Spiel’ more than once from her mother in the past week. Irina hoped that if Sydney didn’t get better, at least the twenty-six year old could meet a handsome doctor and settle down.

Sydney argued that she had a good decade to settle down before she became too old. Irina didn’t agree.

Unfortunately for Sydney, another week passed but her flu had not. So, Irina dragged her daughter to the doctor kicking and screaming - figuratively.

“Why do I have to go?” Sydney whined, even though it sounded more like an extremely quiet croak.

Irina gave her daughter an extremely pointed look. Sydney sunk down in her chair, feeling no older than five, as her mother signed her in at the check-in desk.

Irina, much to Sydney’s relief, didn’t follow her daughter into the examination room once she was called back.

“Are you dying!? Why don’t you have your prescription?” Irina asked dramatically, once Sydney walked back into the waiting room.

Sydney rolled her eyes, “They’re just doing some lab stuff for a few minutes and told me to wait out here, because they needed the exam room.” Sydney explained in a hoarse whisper. Smirking, she added, “So I could be dying, and that’s why they had to do those te--” Sydney couldn’t finish, because she began to cough.

“That’s not funny,” Irina chastised once Sydney was done.

Sydney merely rolled her eyes for what seemed like the millionth time since her mother had dragged her to the doctor.

Forty minutes later, Sydney finally walked out to the waiting room to find Sydney. “Can I talk to you in my office for a minute?” Doctor Bryan asked her patient with a smile.

Sydney nodded, standing up. Irina, who was looking antsy in her chair, looked up at her daughter hopefully.

Sydney nodded, “Come on...” she whispered, following behind the doctor with her mother at her side.

Irina and Sydney filed into the plush office, taking seats across from the doctor. “Sydney, are you sure you don’t want to do this ... alone?”

Sydney shrugged, “She’ll find out anyways.” Sydney said hoarsely.

“Um, okay.” Dr. Bryan started awkwardly, “Well, you do have the influenza virus, Sydney,” she continued, “but that’s not the only thing we found out in your lab reports.”

Irina let out a loud gasp, earning a glare from Sydney.

The doctor couldn’t help but smile at the mother-daughter pair, “Congratulations Sydney, you’re having a baby.”

Irina and Sydney’s jaws dropped open, as they simultaneously said, “Oh my god.”

“You’re a little over five weeks along,” Dr. Bryan continued.

“Wait, five weeks?” Irina asked, “You and Danny broke up almost two months ago, so...” Sydney felt her face turning a bright red, as she looked down at her broken in Nikes she was wearing. “Well, who’s the father than?”

“Mom...” Sydney said as sternly as she could, trying to silence her mother. Irina crossed her arms over her chest as she sat back in the chair.

Once it was silent again, Dr. Bryan began again, “You’ll need to see your OB/GYN; if you don’t have one, I’ll recommend one for you. She’ll prescribe all the vitamins you need and will explain everything more in depth.”

Sydney nodded, the news still hadn’t set in.

She was having Michael Vaughn’s baby.

This was certainly not a good thing. It wasn’t even remotely good. They weren’t even dating, Sydney hadn’t even seen him in over a month. He was in the center of Hollywood, meaning the whole world would know about her baby.

Sydney sighed, drowning out the doctor as she thought about how everything was going to change.

A/N: I know, I know. I heard a collective groan. But this isn't you're typical one night stand leads to pregnancy leads to SV getting together type of fic. Just remember that.

I want to have Michael Vaughn's baby! Syd is lucky. Although, kinda sucks in her position. I can't wait till she tells Vaughn. ;) Should be interesting... :angelic:

The doctor couldn’t help but smile at the mother-daughter pair, “Congratulations Sydney, you’re having a baby.”
phew! she's just pregnant. i was starting to think she had an STD. pregnancy is nothing. ha, i just re-read that. what i meant is it's the the absolute worst thing that could happen.

i like it!!!

hey so can i get a PM? i got one originally but the i hadnt had a chance to read it so could i get one please?! and shes pregnant?! nice..

I am so proud of myself.

I TOTALLY GUESSED THAT!

Excellent chapter! The pregnancy will cause Syd and Vaughn to get back together, and then the will have a beautiful green-eyed kid with dimples.

:woot:
