Sincerely Yours

I knew their meeting would be a disaster. I can just imagine what work will be like the next day. Sydney will probably turn in her resignation- in a form of a voicemail.

Thanks for the PM.

Chris

Chapter 5
By the time she arrived home, a few tears had slid down her cheeks, but Sydney was still in too much disbelief to fully process what had just happened. Her boss, Michael, Michael, her boss, Michael, her jerk asshole boss was Michael, seemingly sweet and wonderful, letter writing Michael. Surely, there must have been some mistake. Michael, her boss, was completely rude, mean and awful. He had no compassion for workers and expected them to do everything on his whim. Michael, the letter writer, was sweet and funny and made her smile. Surely, these two individuals couldn’t be one in the same.

Yet, they were. They were the same person. Michael, the letter writer, wasn’t so sweet and perfect anymore and any hopes of him morphing from fake boyfriend to real one were gone.

Once in her apartment, Sydney went straight to the fridge to grab her Ben & Jerry’s. It was definitely going to be a cry-on-the-sofa, watch-a-sappy-move, wallow-in-the-depression-that-is-life night.

~*~

Watching her walk away, Michael’s heart nearly broke. This was supposed to be Sydney, sweet wonderful letter writing Sydney, and for all he knew, she could have been. He knew nothing about her outside of work, but didn’t find her to be the most heinous person in the world... yet, she was walking away from him even when he called out her name.

Driving home, Michael was just as confused as ever and knowing that Eric would be waiting outside his door, ready to mock him, didn’t make him feel much better.

“So?!” Eric grinned excitedly.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” Michael grumbled as he unlocked the door to his home.

“She was a dog, wasn’t she?” Eric asked sadly.

“Nope, she’s gorgeous,” Michael told him.

“Mean? Fat? Married?” Eric continued as he followed Michael inside.

“Nope.”

“Then what’s the problem?”

“She hates me.”

“What!?” Eric laughed, not expecting that.

“She... she works for me and let’s just say I’m not her favorite boss,” he grumbled.

“Ouch sorry... but you know, you do need to start being less of an asshole at work....,” Eric told his friend for the millionth time. Michael growled at him. “Sorry, not helping, I know. Just... apologize to her.”

“I don’t think it’s that simple Eric,” Michael said sadly.

“You never know until you try.” Eric smiled. Michael hesitated. “Oh come on man! What happened to ‘ohh I love her muah muah muah,’” Eric mocked kissing noises.

“Stop it!” Michael hissed.

“Just do it. You know you’ll regret it if you don’t. Besides, maybe she was just surprised, but really she’s been harboring a secret desire to rip off your clothes, knock all the things off your desk and take you.”

“Thanks Eric,” Michael rolled his eyes.

Once Eric was gone and Michael was slowly picking at the dinner he had made, his mind just kept spinning. What if Sydney really did hate him? Getting up quickly from the table, he walked over to his desk and pulled out the folder containing her seven months worth of letters. He quickly scanned through the most recent ones and found a reoccurring theme.

My boss is a jerk. I feel bad saying that about people because... well, I just do. I mean, I don’t really know him except for the fact that he’s a total jerk to me at work like everyday and everyone in the office hates him.

I hate my boss soooo much!! He bitched me out today for doing something he told me to do!

Today my stupid boss ran into me. I mean physically walked right into me, stomping all over my feet and just kept walking without ever apologizing. Jerk.

His heart sank lower and lower with every new insult. It was him she was talking about. She hated him. She thought he was a jerk. Everyone in the office hated him.

He had known that he wasn’t their favorite person. He knew he was a hard ass. But, hearing it from Sydney, really hit him. It was quite possible that she really, truly did hate him and wouldn’t even consider giving him a chance. For the first time, he wished he could go back and do it all over, but there was no way he could.

~*~

Sydney went into work Friday morning with one goal and one goal only: stay in her office, avoid Michael at all costs. This goal wouldn’t be too hard to achieve. She could just lock the door and work like mad to finish the personnel reports by noon. Then, when Michael went on his lunch break she could put them on his desk and thus, never have to see him at all. A good plan, in theory, of course.

Sydney did manage to finish her reports by noon, though it nearly killed her. She snuck out of her office and crept down the hall, towards his. Hearing him on the phone yelling at someone, her heart sank.

“Lacy!” she flagged down Michael’s secretary who was walking by her with a cup of coffee. “Did Mr. Vaughn take his lunch break yet?”

“He told me he’s not taking lunch today,” Lacy told her.

“Damn it...,” Sydney sighed heavily. “Will you give him these for me?”

“Nice try, but I don’t need to be yelled at for giving him your personnel reports that were due yesterday,” Lacy laughed before walking away.

“Damn it,” Sydney groaned again. Knowing she couldn’t go the rest of her career without seeing him, she had to suck it up, go see him and hope he didn’t bring up the events of the prior evening, but she definitely needed lunch first.

Upon returning, Sydney found a note taped to the door of her office. Personnel reports by 3 – V. “Ughhhh,” she groaned as she yanked the note off. Figuring that it would impress him (if that was even possible) to be early, she grabbed the reports and headed for his office. She took two very deep breaths before knocking on his door. “I have those reports,” she announced as she walked inside.

“Oh great,” he said as he set down his pen and looked up at her.

“Here,” she said, quickly handing them to him and then trying to exit as quickly as possible.

“Wait,” he said. Sydney swore under her breath and exhaled deeply. Michael got up from his desk, walked over to the door and closed it, and then he pulled the blinds to his office. “We have to talk about this.”

“Talk about what?” she asked casually, avoiding eye contact.

“Sydney,” he said seriously.

Sydney groaned as she looked up at him and folded her arms over her chest. “I just don’t understand... how can you be Michael from the letters?! It’s like you’re two people or something! I just... I don’t know,” she sighed.

“I don’t know what to tell you, Sydney. I am who I am. I didn’t make anything up or put anything on in those letters. That is me. All I know is that... those letters were the highlight of my day. I loved hearing from you and.... I was falling in love with that person, who was writing to me, as silly as it sounds. I just,” he sighed as he took a step towards her. “I just want to get a chance to know her- you for real.”

Sydney turned her eyes upwards and looked at him, really looked at him, for perhaps the very first time. His green eyes had a sparkle to them that made her heart flutter even more than it already was when he had used the word ‘love’. His smile was perfect, just like she had hoped it would be. And the way that he was looking at her made her feel good inside. “I ... I don’t know-” she hesitated.

“Please,” he continued, taking another step towards her and putting his hands gently on her arms, giving her chills. “Just give me a chance. One date and then if you don’t have fun you can go back to thinking of me as your jerk, asshole boss who everybody in the office hates.” He smiled at her.

Sydney laughed nervously and turned pink, suddenly feeling sick that she had actually written those things in a letter to him about him without even knowing. “I.... I’m sorry I...”

“Don’t be, it was the truth,” he told her.

“I... I want to give it a try,” she told him honestly. “But... the no inter-office dating policy...,” she let her voice drift off. One thing that Michael and his father had been quite adamant about was that if they ever found out that two people from that office were dating or fraternizing outside of work in a romantic sense, both individuals would be fired on the spot. To add even more bite to their bark, it had happened twice in the past year.

“Don’t worry about it,” he told her. “You won’t get fired, I swear.”

“Okay,” she sighed, giving into her heart. “When?”

“Is tonight too soon?” he smiled.

Sydney laughed. “I guess not.”

“Okay... how about seven? Dress casually,” he told her.

She shrugged. “Sound ok to me. Are you going to pick me up... or?”

“Sure, just give me your address.” He smiled as he reached for a piece of paper off his desk. Sydney smiled as she jotted down her home address and a few simple directions on getting there. Then, she handed him the paper.

“See you at seven.” She smiled.

“Seven,” he repeated, his heart jumping a mile when he saw her dimpled grin.

I really hope it won't cause problems for her later on!! Awesome update. I'm glad she's giving him a chance :D Can't wait for next chapter.

Great update!
I loved that they talked and that Vaughn talked her into going on a date. I hope they will have a great time just like they had writing letters to each other. And I hope this makes Vaughn aware that he's not so liked in the office and that he probably should do something about it. I can't wait for more.

OK, soooo.. if MIchael was hurt when reading about himself that he was an ASS.. why didn't he try to change at work the next day?! That would REALLY show Sydney he took her words to heart and wants to try for her.

great update! thanks for the PM!

Chapter 4

We already live in the same city... we may have seen each other already without even knowing

 That made me laugh though… How funny is that part? I mean, come on… in some way he’s right… I wonder what their reaction is going to be like once they meet up!

I’ll be in a black business suit holding a yellow rose.

I want him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, Sydney turned on her heel and walked quickly in the other direction. Michael called out her name, but she didn’t stop until she was behind the wheel of her car, speeding towards home.

Oh no……..not home!!!!!!!!!!! Awwwww…. Oh well… hehe… we all know the outcome of this anyway right… so please fix it soon! :woot:

Chapter 5

“Just do it. You know you’ll regret it if you don’t. Besides, maybe she was just surprised, but really she’s been harboring a secret desire to rip off your clothes, knock all the things off your desk and take you.”

Seriously I can’t make you read BB anymore… I’m about to corrupt you completely!!!!!!! :Pinch:

For the first time, he wished he could go back and do it all over, but there was no way he could.

Yes there is… He’s just gotta find away to apologise properly

“Seven,” he repeated, his heart jumping a mile when he saw her dimpled grin.

Awww… me too!!!!!!!!!! ;)

I hope he starts changing at work.
He didn't like acting like that, he was just
following the example his father set.

It's good he made the effort to apologize to her.
I'm glad she said she would try.
