Ok, so this could be total wishful thinking (or hopeful delusions since it was quick and i have really bad vision), but was the guy in the hallway reading the newspaper when Sloane walked out of the courtroom Vaughn with a beard? I'm starting to think that I'm making this up since no one else is saying anything...
Definitely wishful thinking. It was most definitely the guy being hired by Dean at the beginning. Someone later said that he was going after Rachel. While we all assumed that, it was obviously wrong since Dean was the one controlling the car hanging from the cable, Dean was the one on the phone and so on. The mystery bearded guy, on the other hand, is the one who showed up in to see Sloane in jail. So I think it's probably a good assumption that the target was Sloane not Rachel. Nothing says "target" implies "target to kill".
ya know, I haven't missed Vaughn at all. Infact, if it wasn't for his fans, I probably would forget about him period. The newbies are doing great so far and it's nice to see that Rachel isn't a Sydney clone, she is different.
Vaughn was too important a part of the show to be forgotten.
That being said, I like the new characters too. Rachel's back story is just a little
too much like Syd's but I'll forgive them for that since they have introduced some differences in her personality. I think Tom is very hot and look forward to him being developed more later. Some people are saying the new characters are being shoved down our throats while somebody else complained that Tom is underdeveloped - I think both points are unfair. They're introducing the characters somewhat cautiously while still indicating that they're going to be a big part of the new season - and I'm fine with that. It's great to see Syd develop into a mentor.
In all honesty, I think eliminating Vaughn has allowed Syd a lot of room to grow as a character. I still want him back because I think it's cruelty to deprive the main character of almost all the people she's closest to (Danny, Francie, Will, Nadia, Irina) . . . they have to at least let her walk away from APO w/ the love of her life. But he might be gone forever. I don't know. In the meantime though, his absences has really made Sydney grow as we haven't seen in any way before. W/o Vaughn there to back her up, she's grown into her own as a mentor and as a leader. She's calmer now than she ever was before. We don't see her smile, but that's realistic I think. She still misses him, but she's getting on with life and doing what she has to do.
I missed last week's episode because I didn't care enough to bother watching the show, but I'm glad I caught this week's. It makes me feel like I can start looking forward to Thursday night Alias again.
