ACT THREE
OVER BLACK, THE WORD "MEXICO" APPEARS. WE PUSH THROUGH THE
"X" TO:

EXT. SONORA DESERT - MEXICO - DAY
Through shimmering heat waves, TRANSPORT VEHICLES emerge --
first, out of focus -- as they near, they SHARPEN --
INT. LEAD TRANSPORT VEHICLE - MEXICO - DAY
Clustered together are Sydney and Weiss and a SWAT TEAM. The
SWAT Team listens to Sydney's briefing:
SYDNEY
We've agreed to a location in the Sonora
Desert as the point of exchange. Each
side is allowed no more than a five man
cover team. The trade will go down as
follows:
EXT. SONORA DESERT - MEXICO - DAY
The transport vehicles pull to a stop along the flats -- we
begin JUMP CUTTING as the SWAT Team, now wearing tactical
gear, exits the lead transport vehicle and assumes their
positions for the trade. Over this:
SYDNEY (V.O.)
Once the exchange is initiated, Sark and
Rotter will be released simultaneously.
EXT. SONORA DESERT - MEXICO - DAY
Our jump-cutting ends as SYDNEY opens the back of the second
transport vehicle and climbs in to find...
INT. SECOND TRANSPORT VEHICLE - SONORA DESERT - MEXICO - DAY
SARK, seated, his legs and wrists chained. She begins
unlocking his feet, her arctic eyes occasionally meeting his.
SARK
... It occurred to me, in light of your
recent resurrection, that whoever faked
your death may have faked Allison's as
well. And that she, like you, may be
alive.
SYDNEY
(wry)
One can only hope.
SARK
I assure you: this organization, The
Covenant, is as much a mystery to me as
it is to the CIA. I can't imagine why
they'd want to make this trade.
SYDNEY
... You're about to find out.
She clasps his arm to lead him out, but his eyes drill her:
SARK
My life is in danger, isn't it.
(beat)
I would hope our epic rivalry has earned
me a degree of honesty from you in
matters of life or death.
SYDNEY
(pause; and so -- )
It's possible they want you... to kill
you. Revenge, for something in your
past.
See Sark now, the fear in his eyes. Working to hide it.
Sydney stares back, remorseless. The silence is interrupted
by the CRACKLE of WEISS' VOICE over her earpiece:
WEISS (V.O.)
... We have a vehicle approaching.
EXT. SONORA DESERT - MEXICO - DAY
Through the shimmering heat, rooster tails of SWIRLING DUST
appear in the distance, signalling the oncoming Covenant
team...
As the vehicles approach, we recognize them as TWO MERCEDES
SEDANS. Slowing a measured distance from the CIA caravan,
the Mercedes' roll to a stop, side-by-side. Beat. From the
first vehicle, two MERCENARIES emerge, scanning the area; one
carrying an UZI, the other a FLARE GUN. HE LAUNCHES A FLARE
INTO THE SKY -- we FOLLOW it as it streaks up to the
heavens --
ANGLE - SYDNEY AND SARK, now standing by the lead transport
vehicle. His wrists are still cuffed. She says into her
earpiece:
SYDNEY
Base Ops, I just got the call signal.
Should I confirm?
INT. ROTUNDA - DAY
Dixon on comms, listens to the exchange:
DIXON
You're authorized, Mountaineer --
OMITTED
EXT. SONORA DESERT - MEXICO - DAY
Sydney levels her own FLARE GUN and LAUNCHES A RETURN FLARE
INTO THE SKY.
A beat, then from the second sedan, ULRICH ROTTER is pushed
out by USHEK SAN'KO, the man we saw heist the elevator in Act
One. He nudges Rotter forward and...
Sydney unlocks the binds on Sark's wrists, hating the chance
they're taking...
SYDNEY
... You're up.
