When I found you

Chapter Eight

"You ready?" Vaughn asked her.
She nodded, reaching over to grab his hand and squeeze it reassuringly.
"K." he said, opening the door to the plane and hopping out to give her a hand.
She stepped out, into the pouring rain of L.A.
Vaughn starts running toward his car, but stops when he sees Sydney isn't following him.
"Sydney!" he calls back, turning around to see her standing there, not moving. "Come on sweetie. You're getting soaked." he says, now running back over to her to grab her hand.
"I'm home." she says smiling.
"Syd, you're going to get sick." he says, laughing.
"I don't care." she responds, laughing back.
"You're crazy, you know that!" he says smiling defeatedly.
She grins as he reaches over to tuck a sopping piece of hair behind her ear.
"You're so beautiful."
"I'm soaking wet. How can you say that?" she asks, giggling.
"Easy. Because I love you." he says leaning forward to kiss her.
She responds gladly. The rain drips off their faces, soakinf their clothes. Neither of them notice anything but eachother.
Finally Vaughn pulls away smiling.
"You know what?"
"What?" she says grinning like a complete fool.
"I've always wanted to kiss someone in the rain." he says laughing.
She laughs, grabbing his hand. "C’mon."
He nods, chuckling, as the make a mad dash for his car.
He runs around and opens the door for her before running around to the other end and hopping in.
"Where to?" he asks, smiling.
"Don't we need to get in to Ops?" she sighs.
His smile broadens as he reports. "Nope. Not until tomorrow."
Her mouth drops open wide. "How did that work out?"
"I don't know." he smiles, obviously lying.
She raises her eyebrows at him replying, "Yeah right. Spill Michael."
"Hey! No fair."
"What?" she asks innocently, leaning over the seat to trail light kissed along his neck and run her hand through his hair.
"Syd." he says, laughing.
"What?!" she giggles.
"You're making me crazy." he chuckles.
"Good." she says pulling away.
"You're evil!"
"You like it!"
"No denying that. So, where to?"
"You're house, I guess."
"Really?" he asks smiling.
"Yeah, I mean what's the deal with my house?"
"It's still there. The CIA cleaned it up and Will is living there now."
"Oh my gosh! Will! How is he?" she asks smiling hopefully.
"He's good." Vaughn nodded.
She smiled in relief. "I don't understand how, but that's great!"
"Yeah, well so my house or yours?"
"Can we go to yours?" she asked, looking down.
"Of course."
"It's just, I don't think I'm ready to see Will yet. I don't think I'm ready to see anyone yet! This is all so... weird."
"I know sweetie." he says, reaching over to grab her hand. "It'll get better. I promise."
"I know."
There is a moment of silence and then Sydney speaks. "Vaughn, Thanks for everything."
"Syd." he sighs, leaning over to kiss her on the cheek. "You're very welcome, but you don't ever have to thank me! I will always be here."
He squeezes her hand and she knows that everything WILL be okay!

Chapter Nine
*******************

They pulled into Vaughn's driveway, the rain still pouring down.
He pulls into his garage and turns off the car.
"When did you get a house?" Sydney asks.
"This is the WPP house. Roberta is on a business trip this week. I called to make sure while you were asleep yesterday at the hotel."
She nods and opens the car door, getting out.
They walk in. The house is simple. Quaint and suitable. Sensible.
Vaughn throws his jacket casually to the side, landing on a kitchen chair.
"Want something to drink. I think there is some wine in the fridge somewhere." he says, grinning.
She thinks about it for a second, before deciding she could use a little something to drink. "Sure."
He nods, heading towards the fridge.
"Make yourself at home, Syd." he says, poking his head out of the fridge.
She smiles in reply.
"Vaughn?"
"Yeah?" he asks, still looking through the fridge.
"I'm going to go to the bathroom. Be right back."
"Okay sweetie. It's down the hall, to the right and through my room." he says, finally emerging from the fridge with a bottle of wine. "Found it."
She smiles before turning around to go find the bathroom.
She walks down the hall, deciding to take a quick tour. She sticks her head in the first room.
It is a study. She smiles as she notices a picture of her and Vaughn on his desk. In fact, she is ecstatic to see that there are pictures of her and Vaughn all over the room. She figures it must be his study.
She closes the door and heads farther down the narrow hallway.
Opening the next door, she peeks in. Inside is another office. The walls are plastered with pictures of a woman (must be Roberta) and a man that appears to be her boyfriend. She can't help but selfishly be happy that the woman has a boyfriend. It is comforting for her to know that Vaughn has at least been living with just a friend.
She closes the door quietly, and walk on to the next door. She peeks in and sees what must be Roberta's room. It is very plain and looks like no effort was put into decorating it. She couldn't blame the girl. It's not like she was planning (or hoping) to stay there for too long. There are still boxes stacked up in the corner. Old Diet Coke Cans and pizza boxes litter the floor and a stack of papers are strewn across the mattress. The radio is still on. Clothes are thrown out of the dressers. *It looks like she packed in a hurry* Sydney thought to herself as she moved on to the next and last room. *Must be Vaughn's*
She opened the door, and smiled as she walked in.
It was a small room, though it still had charm to it. It wasn't messy and littered like Roberta's. No, it was neat and orderly. A big bed lay in the center. She smiled at the hockey pictures randomly placed on the walls. A small dresser sat in the corner, and some night stands on the sides of the bed. That was about it. It didn't look very lived in. She smiled. *The whole room smells like him. I love it.* she thought, breathing it all in.
She walked over to the bed and her grin grew a mile when she saw what was sitting on his bed. Laying there, was a picture of Vaughn and her. It was a picture of them out to eat in downtown L.A. They had gone there after one of his hockey practices. It was about a month before she disappeared. The picture looked so worn. Like he carried around with him all the time, folded it and unfolded it. The thought was overwhelming to her. She loved it!
Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. She had to go to the bathroom really bad. She looked around the room. Spotting a different door, she headed towards it.
Meanwhile, Vaughn was still in the kitchen, rummaging through the fridge and cabinets for something to eat. Sighing in the realization that unless him and Syd wanted to eat Cottage Cheese or Corn chips for dinner he was going to have to order out. *Where had Sydney gone to?"* he thought, walking out of the kitchen and down the hall, to look for her.
He poked his head into his room, and smiled at the sight before him. Sydney was standing at the wall, looking at a picture.
He stood there, just watching her, and enjoying the view. She finally looked up, catching him.
"Hey." she said smiling.
"Hey. What are you looking at?" he asked.
"A picture of you playing hockey when you were little."
"Oh." he said, a look of mock- terror spreading across his face.
"Oh my god, Vaughn. Whatever! You were the cutest thing when you were little." she paused giggling."You still are." she laughed.
"Shut up, Syd." he moaned, laughing.
"What!? You are!" she giggled.
"Great. I'm... blah... cute to you!?"
"Oh, but you're a very hot cute." she smiled, setting the picture back down on the night stand."
"Oh, well if I must be cute.... then at least I'm hot cute." he said, laughing.
"Yes, of course." she said, walking up to him and wrapping her arms around his stomach and berrying her face in his chest.
"You okay?" he asked, returning the gesture.
"Fine. Did you know your room smells exactly like you?"
"Is that a good thing?" he asked, raising his eyebrow.
"Very good! I love the way you smell!"
"That's good." he chuckled. "So, unless you want VERY old cottage cheese or stale corn chips for dinner, do you mind ordering out?"
"Vaughn, I'm not really hungry." she sighed.
"I don't care! Syd, you haven't eaten all day. In fact, Syd now that you mention it, I didn't see you eat anything much yesterday either. Are you feeling alright sweetie?"
"Yeah, fine. Just haven't been very hungry lately." she smiled, weakly.
"Well you're defiantly eating something." he replied, pulling his head off her shoulder to look her in the eyes. "So, what'll it be? You pick."
"Italian sounds good."
"Italian it is. How's spaghetti sound? I know this great little restrain that delivers. It's spaghetti is to die for."
"Sounds great."
"Good. I'll be right back." he said, kissing her lightly on the forehead and leaving to go order it.
Sydney pulled off her shoes and sat down on his bed. It was very soft and comfortable. The cover was made of what felt like goose feathers. It was a very nice bed. She laid back and closed her eyes. She realized it was a mistake the second they were closed. She felt her whole body relax, sleepily drifting off already. She didn't want to fall asleep yet, and decided to avoid it by sitting up. She leaned back into the pillows and propped herself up.
Still feeling like she couldn't trust herself to stay awake, she hopped off the bed, and went to go find Vaughn.
She smiled , walking into the kitchen. He was sitting up on the counter, talking on the phone.
He smiled back as he talked into the receiver. She walked up and leaned up against the counter next to him and waited on him to Finnish talking.
"Yes, two. And don't forget the bread, Tony...................... Yes...........Yes..... Alright, thanks man."
He hung up the phone and hopped off the counter.
"Food will be here in twenty."
"Great." she said smiling.
He wrapped his arms around her waist and looked down at her, grinning.
"So, how 'bout we watch a movie. You look like you need to relax honey."
"Yeah, I'm beat. What movies do you have?"
"None, but I think Berty has some. Let's go check it out."
"Ok." she said.
He grabbed her hand and walked back down the hall and into her room. Looking under the cabinet, he quickly found the movies.
"Looks like she's got My Best Friend's Wedding or Sleepless in Seattle. You pick."
"No, you pick. I picked dinner." she smiled.
"Sounds fair." he held up Sleepless in Seattle and smiled. "Gotta love Meg Ryan." he chuckled.
"Oh boy." she laughed.
They walked back out into the hall and into his room.
"Do you want to change? You've been wearing those clothes for like two straight days now."
"Yeah. That sounds really nice. I don't have anything though."
"Well, maybe Berty's will fit. I'm sure she has at least one pair of Pajama pants or something, although I wouldn't count on it. All I've ever seen her in is business suits."
"Big worker?" she asked.
"Yeah." Vaughn said, nodding his head.
He came back a few minutes later with a pair of sweat pants.
"Took me a while to find these. And can you believe she doesn't have a single T-shirt!"
"Are you serious!?" she laughed.
"Yeah. Oh well. You can just borrow one of mine."
She couldn't help but smile at the idea of wearing Vaughn's clothes.
She smiled an okay. He pulled out a T-shirt and handed it to her.
Just then the door bell rang.
"I'll get it. You go change." he said smiling.
Vaughn walked down the hall, grabbing his wallet on the way.
He opened the door and smiled when he saw who it was. His favorite delivery boy. He had gotten to know Oliver very well over the past year, since he had ordered from Tony's about every night.
"Hey Oly. How's it hanging?" he asked taking the bags from him, and handing him the money and a generous tip.
"Alright, Mikey. You?"
"Great!" he said grinning.
"You seem a lot happier than usual. What's up, if you don't mind me asking."
"My girlfriend. I haven't seen her in two years. She's been gone on business. She came back the other day. I'm just so glad to see her again."
"Oh really. That's great!"
"Yeah."
"What's her name, Mike?"
"Sydney. She's amazing."
He nodded. "Well, I'll let you get back to her. I'll see you later, buddy."
"Later." Michael said, closing the door behind him.
He grabbed the bags and headed back to his room.
He walked back into his room, and loved the sight his saw before him. Sydney, sitting on his bed, in his T-shirt and..... his Pajama pants.
"What happened to Roberta's pants Syd?"
"They were too small. She must be tiny."
"Oh, so you found mine, I see."
"Yeah, I hope you don't mind."
"No, it's fine." he said, climbing up on the bed next to her.
He was totally absorbed in his thoughts, and didn't realize it until Sydney said, "What!?"
"Huh. What?"
"You were laughing." she giggled at him.
"Oh, I was just thinking."
"Penny for your thoughts?"
"You don't want to know." he laughed back.
"Now, I really want to know."
"It's just,......... " he paused.
"Yeah..?"
"It's just, is it supposed to really turn me on that you're sitting on my bed in my clothes?" he laughed.
She choked on the noodles in her mouth, before letting out a long laugh.
After a minute she stopped her giggles enough to say, "I wouldn't know."
He tilted his head and smiled, before grabbing his own bowl of food and chowing down.
She reached over and grabbed the clicker, turning on the movie and also turning the light off on the night stand.
She leaned back, into Vaughn on the pillows. He wrapped his arm around her, and she snuggled up into his embrace, fitting perfectly. It felt so right.
They both sat quietly, eating there dinner and watching the old favorite of both of them.

Outside, a man sat in his car. He dials a number on his cell phone.
"Hello." he pauses.
"Yes. She's there. Should I go ahead? Right." he pauses, listening completely. "Yes, I'm sure. Vaughn told me when I delivered the food..... Right.... Right, okay." he said before hanging up the phone.
