Season 4 AI Gets Cut Down (finally!)

I thought this had some effect on Alias (if only the ratings) ^_^

FOX Trims Wednesday 'Idol'
(Tuesday, March 01 02:07 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Here's something you don't see every day: As the end of the February sweeps period approaches, FOX is asking for less "American Idol." The always bloated Wednesday episode of the series, when the week's eliminations are announced, will be cut to 30 minutes, as of the March 2 show.

Starting this Wednesday, FOX will begin its Wednesday with a new episode of "That '70s Show," followed by a "That '70s Show" repeat. The "Idol" results episode is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET, with "The Simple Life" set to air at 9:30 p.m. for at least the next two weeks. The new comedy "Life on a Stick" is set to move into the coveted post-"Idol" time slot on March 23. The night will also get a shake-up on April 13 when the comedy "Stacked," starring Pamela Anderson and Tom Everett Scott, will grab the 8:30 slot.

The season's first Wednesday results show aired last week and saw the elimination of Jared Yates, Judd Harris, Sarah Mather and Melinda Lira, as "Idol" went from 24 contestants down to 20. The hour-long episode drew outrage from many fans of the show, who responded negatively to the occasionally cruel delays and teases which left the singers and viewers on edge. The show still hooked nearly 26.7 million viewers.

The immediate beneficiary of the move is the third season of "The Simple Life." Although the show's premiere attracted big numbers airing after an hour of "Idol," the ratings have dipped somewhat in recent weeks, attracting 8.2 million last week.

ABC's "Alias" may also get a bit of a bump [up]. The spy drama burst out of the gate earlier this year with the help of its "Lost" lead-in, but the arrival of "Idol" has caused the show's audience to dwindle, particularly in its second half-hour, when viewers are trained to turn to "Idol." ^_^

It didnt' make the slightest difference.

Alias still barely reached 10 million viewers.

American Idol is a pest.
