Chapter 28
“I think your dad was watching us.” Vaughn said as Sydney guided him to her room.
“Really, why do you think that?” Sydney asked.
“I believe he was watching us during the wedding reception because when ever I looked at him he was looking at us. He was watching us dance too.” Vaughn stated as he helped Sydney out of her dress.
“Did he have his famous don’t touch my daughter or I will kill you look?” Sydney joked as she kissed Vaughn.
“No he actually looked happy.” Vaughn replied back before he kissed her back.
“By the way where do you think he went? He left in a hurry.” Sydney spoke softly.
“Kendall probably called him.” Vaughn said as Sydney pushed him onto her bed.
Jack entered the CIA Op Center and walked over to Kendall’s office. He closed the door behind himself and took a seat across from Kendall’s desk. After Kendall finished his conversation on the phone he took out a file from his desk drawer and handed it to Jack. Jack looked at for a while and then closed it.
“Call in Agents Vaughn, Weiss, Ashwick, and Sydney. Also call other field rated agents now.” Jack ordered Kendall as he got up from the chair and left the office.
An hour later the debrief room was filled with agents waiting patiently for information on the new mission that they were going on. As soon as Kendall walked into the room two enlarged pictures showed up on a big screen in the middle of the room.
“All of you are going to go to Tokyo, Japan. In Tokyo there is a warehouse where a scientist called; “Gorge Davidson” has transferred this device to.” Kendall explained as he pointed to the two pictures.
One picture was of a warehouse and the other a picture of the device a circular sphere and six triangular spikes.
“Gorge Davidson sent this device to Tokyo, so he could study it in his lab which is in Japan. Rambaldi wrote that if this device fell into the wrong hands it would be the end of innocent people’s lives. He wrote that evil would conquer all that gets in its way, if this happens evil would rule the world and prevail over everyone. That is why all of you are going to Tokyo, Japan, to raid the warehouse and bring the device safely back here. You will raid the warehouse in the night two days before Gorge Davidson gets there. The rest of the information about this mission is in the folders that will be handed to you before you leave this room. You will each be in a group of three. The names of people you will be working with is in the folder.” Kendall informed everyone.
Before all of the agents headed out the door Kendall said one more thing, “God bless all of you and try to come back safely.”
“Sir I don’t believe in god.” A young agent spoke softly.
“Then try to come back safely.” Kendall replied back as he handed him a folder.
The agents got into the vans that drove them all to a plane that was waiting for them. All the things they needed were on the plane ready for them to use. Sydney, Vaughn, and Ashwick sat together on the plane and watched Weiss talk to agents about the mission.
“This might be my last mission with you two.” Ashwick stated sadly.
“Why are you saying that?” Sydney asked kind of shock that Ashwick would say something like that.
“I’m being transferred to Langley.” Ashwick replied back.
“Congratulations Darla.” Sydney said as she hugged her friend.
“Yeah, congratulations Darla. Does Weiss know?” Vaughn said as he looked at Weiss.
“Yes, he knows. We talked about it three days ago over dinner. He already got permission from Kendall to take a couple days off to help me move into my new apartment.” Ashwick spoke softly.
“That’s good.” Sydney spoke.
“I’m going to go sleep so I will have enough energy for the mission.” Ashwick stated as she walked over to where Weiss was now sitting.
Jack was sitting at his desk looking at the file that Kendall had given him earlier about this mission. He wanted to go and he should have, but Kendall said it would be better to stay here. Kendall also had made a comment that they had more than enough agents going on this mission. Jack was uncomfortable and worried about Sydney’s life; he was worried that she was going to get hurt. Jack was thinking about his daughter when a young man came up to him.
“Sir, they reached Tokyo, Japan, and they are now headed for the warehouse.” The young man spoke with a shaky voice.
Jack watched the young man quickly walk away from him before he got up from his desk, and went to Marshall’s office. He picked up a headphone com-unit and put it on then sat in a chair in Marshall’s office.
“Two groups will be stationed at north, south, east, and west side of the warehouse. We have a satellite stationed in that area right now for this mission. I also added tracking devices to each of their com-units and a back up one in their shoes. Since the trackers are small they won’t be able to feel it and it’s also hidden from sight.” Marshall explained quickly to everyone in his office.
“Marshall thank you for coming in right after your wedding reception. I know you were going to leave an hour ago for your honeymoon.” Kendall stated before putting a set of headphones on.
“No problem Sir. I mean Director Kendall.” Marshall replied back.
“This is Eagle eye we are in position.” The first group leader spoke.
“This is Hand glider we are in position.” The second group spoke.
After all eight groups got in position they waited for Jack to tell them to move in.
“Its all clear move in.” Jack ordered as he looked at a computer screen.
The agents moved in ready to protect themselves with loaded guns. The agents moved quietly and cautiously as they turned corners and entered dark rooms.
“Geese there are a lot of crates and boxes.” Several agents comment.
“Carefully start opening all of them.” Jack spoke firmly.
“Copy that.” The leaders of each group said.
“Come on lets get started the sooner we start the sooner we get the device.”
Vaughn said as they walked over to some boxes and crates.
After thirty minutes Sydney, Vaughn, and another agent named Evan had opened all the boxes and crates in the room they were in.
“It’s not here.” Sydney said as she wiped some sweat off her forehead.
“Okay we’ll search a different room then.” Vaughn said as they headed for the
door.
Sydney followed Vaughn out of the room while Evan closely followed Sydney.
They walked down the hall to the last room that had crates and a few boxes.
Mean while outside a black mustang came to a halt beside the warehouse.
“So this is where the device is?” Boris asked.
“Yes, this is where it’s at.” Sark answered as he step out of the car.
“This should be easy.” Zora stated as she got out of the car and stood between both men.
“Kill who ever gets in your way.” Boris commanded.
Back in Los Angeles Marshal was watching the screen when he saw three red dots appear on the screen.
“Jack, some unknown people just arrived.” Marshall pointed at the three red dots.
“Three unknown people just arrived they might be hostile. Keep your eyes and ears open.” Jack quickly spoke into his com-unit.
In the warehouse Vaughn, Sydney and Evan entered the last room and found a maze of boxes and crates stacked in the room.
“Wow.” Evan said to himself as he started to wander away from Sydney and Vaughn.
“We have to be careful especially after what Jack said.” Vaughn said to Sydney and also to Evan who didn’t hear him.
“This way.” Zora said as they entered the warehouse.
“Zora is quite a woman.” Sark spoke to Boris in a whisper as they followed Zora.
“Yes, she is. How did you like working with her on your last mission?” Boris asked with a small smile.
“It was great. She’s pretty smart and she looks good in that… what was it a reddish orange wig.” Sark stated his opinion.
“Will the two of you stop talking?” Zora asked turning around to face the two men.
“Yes, sorry.” The two men answered back.
“Someone was already here. If you two were paying more attention you would have noticed that the boxes and crates were already opened.” Zora spoke with an edge to her tone.
“Do you think they are still here?” Boris asked curiously.
“Probably.” Sark stated as he pulled out his gun.
“Let’s go to the last room at the end of the hall.” Zora said as she started to walk again.
Vaughn and Sydney started to open boxes while Evan walked away looking at all the boxes.
“Vaughn did you find anything yet?” Sydney asked as she opened another crate.
“Nope, how about you?” Vaughn replied back.
“Nothing. I wander if anyone else has found anything.” Sydney stated curiously.
A few second passed and Vaughn finally got word that nobody had found the device yet.
“Wait here and be quiet. I see someone.” Zora whispered at the entrance of the last room.
Zora loaded her hand gun and quietly slipped into the room. She watched as Evan walked around looking dumb founded by all the boxes and crates. As soon as Evan turned the corner and came face to face with Zora she pulled the trigger and watched as blood trickled down his forehead. She then turned around and walked back out of the room to get Boris and Sark.
“Good thing these guns come with silencers. Now come on and make sure you don’t make any noise.” Zora said as soon as she met the two men again.
The two men followed Zora into the room and hid behind a crate at the entrance.
“I’m going to split from you two and go to the other end of the room then I will start looking for the device.” Sark informed the other two people before moving away.
In Los Angeles Jack and Marshall were still looking at the computer screen trying to find the three red dots that used to be outside of the warehouse.
“Out of all the days in a week it has to be a stormy day tonight.” Marshall said as he was pushing keys on the computer keyboard.
“Are all the generators working correctly?” Jack asked an agent who just walked into the room.
“Yes, we got them to work finally. Sorry it took so long.” The agent answered.
“The satellite is a little off, but I can get it back in the right place in a jiffy. It probably moved when we lost connection from the power outage.” Marshall spoke quickly.
“It’s back on track. Okay where are the three red dots now?” Marshall talked to himself.
Jack looked at the screen and pointed at the room where Sydney, Vaughn, and Evan were in.
“There they are. Which of are agents are in that room?” Jack pointed to the screen.
“Let me see I assigned certain numbers to them when I put the tracking devices in their com-units and shoes. The tracking devices have numbers and the back up tracking devices have the same numbers as the other ones. The first one is 10247, which is Vaughn. Second one is 10347, which is Sydney. The last one is 10658 and that is Evan.” Marshall finished speaking.
“Why is Evan standing so close to the red dots and not moving?” Kendall asked as he looked at the screen.
“Sydney and Vaughn listen to me this is Jack speaking to you. The three unknown people are in the same room as you. Do not act suspicious they might be watching you, any sudden moves and they might kill you. Evan is by them and he is not moving away from them. They might have killed him. We have someone trying to contact him and he is not responding. Our satellite connection is cutting out because of the storm we might lose contact with you. Please keep your eyes and ears open, be aware of everything around you. Evan is by the entrance where two unknown people are. The third unknown person is at the opposite side of the room in the back. I am going to inform the others.” Jack informed them quickly.
“Okay, thanks Jack.” Vaughn whispered quietly.
“Jack there is too much interference. They might not hear you.” Kendall stated.
“I do not care. I am going to try to inform them. They have the right to know and if they know they can help the other three agents.” Jack spoke firmly with a cold tone.
“This is Boot camp. There…three…get…try…them…” As Jack spoke to the agents he started to cut out.
“What? We …hear…repeat…” Weiss said into his com-unit, but before he could
finish the CIA lost all contact to them.
“Sorry, but we lost all contact. With the storm going on I can’t even keep the satellite in the right place for very long. I will still try to redirect it to them.” Marshall said frantically as he kept trying to get reconnected with the agents in Japan.
Mean while Sydney and Vaughn slowly got behind a crate for protection as they made sure their guns were loaded.
“Let’s see if Evan is okay. I also believe it would be better for the two of us to stick together.” Vaughn said softly.
“Okay, let’s go.” Sydney replied back.
Vaughn stood up then helped Sydney get up off the floor. Sydney walked behind Vaughn as they walked through a maze of crates and boxes. Sydney looked behind her every other minute to make sure they were not being followed. As the reached the entrance they started to hear voices. One of the voices seemed very familiar to Vaughn, but he didn’t know who it could be. Vaughn and Sydney moved closer and closer to the entrance, but stopped when they saw a hand on the ground. Sydney moved passed Vaughn so she could see who it was. When she saw who it was she almost dropped her gun. Sydney turned around and faced Vaughn with tears in her eyes.
“Who is it Syd?” Vaughn asked as he grabbed her hand.
“I’m sorry…Evan…I…its Evan dead.” Sydney said shocked.
Vaughn looked at Evan and bent down to see if he had a pulse, but of course he didn’t.
“We need to contact Weiss or someone.” Vaughn said.
Sydney tried to contact someone and failed.
“I think there is too much interference for the com-units to work.” Sydney stated.
All of a sudden they heard footsteps behind them. Sydney and Vaughn turned around to see who it was.
“Melissa! What are you… what the hell are you doing here?” Vaughn asked shocked.
“Vaughn it nice to see you too.” Zora said with an evil smirk.
“You know what Vaughn you are really stupid. You never ever realized or at least thought I was in your life to just get information about the CIA from you. I guess when it comes to love you can become deaf, dumb, and blind. Because if I was you I would have realized along time ago that the one I married was not who they said they were.” Zora said with a cold hiss.
Vaughn pushed Sydney back behind a crate as Zora pulled out her gun.
“You and your friend are going to wish that you didn’t come here.” Zora said as she pulled the trigger.
Vaughn dodged the bullet and moved behind the crate. Then he told Sydney to hide. Sydney ran with Vaughn following behind her, but Zora was right behind them. Soon Vaughn and Sydney were in an empty space surrounded by several crates. Sydney looked for a space between the crates and found one she pulled Vaughn with her as she ran toward it. Just as they reached the space between the two crates Zora came into view.
“You can run, but I will find you.” Zora said in a taunting voice.
“Zora love there you are. Oh you found some more people. I know I told you to kill who ever gets in your way, but I didn’t mean play a cat and mouse game.” Boris said with a laugh.
“Sark is looking for the device right now. You can take your time in finishing them off while I watch.” Boris spoke as he leaned against a crate.
Sydney and Vaughn watched as Zora put her finger on the trigger. As soon as Zora pulled the trigger Sydney had stepped in front of Vaughn and pushed Vaughn into the space between the crates. Vaughn watched as Sydney fell to the hard cold floor.
“NOOOOO.” Vaughn screamed out loud.
He stood where he was in shock from seeing Sydney fall to the ground after being shot. He watched her lay on the floor motion less. There was no sign of life; she didn’t even twitch a finger. Vaughn felt the anger growing inside him and before he new it he had stepped out from between the crates. He lifted the gun and fired five bullets into Zora. Zora dropped her gun and slowly moved closer to Boris before falling to the floor in front of his feet. Boris looked down at Zora then back up at Vaughn.
“You stupid idiot. You will pay now for what you did to her.” Boris yelled as pulled his gun out.
He pointed his gun at Vaughn and pulled the trigger nothing happened.
“You shot Zora five times I believe you have a sixth and final bullet left.” Boris said as he realized his gun was jammed and he couldn’t fix it.
Vaughn pulled the trigger on his gun and watched as Boris hit the ground and picked up Zora’s gun.
“You missed me.” Boris laughed.
Vaughn grabbed Sydney’s gun and hid behind a crate right when Boris started to shoot at him. Vaughn fired back at Boris and missed until he came to the last bullet. Boris was occupied with trying to find his extra magazine for the gun when he felt a sharp pain in his left shoulder. Boris dropped his gun as sharp pain shot down his arm. He quickly walked over to Vaughn and grabbed him out from between the crates.
“Now you will feel pain!” Boris yelled.
He lifted his fist and punched Vaughn in the side of the face. Vaughn stumbled backwards, but caught himself before falling over. He quickly moved forward and punched Boris in the mouth. Vaughn was about to punch him again when Boris kicked him in the side, causing Vaughn to gasp for air. Boris punched Vaughn in the stomach and then grabbed a knife from his shoe. He pushed Vaughn against a crate trapping him. Boris lifted the knife to Vaughn’s neck. Vaughn quickly lifted his hand and poked his finger into the bullet wound in Boris left shoulder. This caused Boris to drop his knife and grab his shoulder and stepped back. When he stepped back he end up moving the knife away from Vaughn’s reach. Vaughn ran and tried to get the knife, but Boris kicked him and caused him to fall down beside Sydney. Vaughn looked at Sydney’s life less body as tears came to his eyes.
“I’m so sorry Sydney. I’m sorry that I didn’t protect you Sydney. I’m sorry.” Vaughn said as he ran his hand through her hair.
Vaughn stood up and quickly kicked Boris in the stomach. Boris let out a grunt and then ran forward into Vaughn before Vaughn could move out of the way. Vaughn felt a sharp pain in his side and looked down. Vaughn put his hand around Boris’s knife that was sticking out of him. He could feel warm liquid oozing out around the knife. Before Vaughn could do anything someone hit him in the back of the head knocking him out. The last thing he saw was Sydney laying beside him.
Back in Los Angeles Jack was pacing the room impatiently. He had a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach like something horribly wrong happened. He heard Marshall saying something to him and stopped pacing.
“Jack, I redirected the satellite to the right place and we can contact them again.” Marshall said still looking at the screen.
Jack looked at the screen and saw two red dots moving around on the screen and one red dot not moving. Then Jack saw two green dots and noticed that they were still not moving. He waited a few second longer to see if they would move, but they didn’t.
“Weiss, David, and Joe take you team to the last room at the end of the south east hall quickly. Boy scouts team is in trouble they need help. Move now do you hear me?” Jack yelled into his com-unit.
“Yes, we’re moving.” The three leaders said as they started running in the direction that Jack told them to go.
Jack sat down in a chair and held his head in his hands. He new something bad happened, but he didn’t know how badly.
“Boris get out of here now. I’ll find the device by myself. I will call for someone to pick me up. Now leave” Sark spoke comely.
Boris obeyed and didn’t say anything. He turned around and picked up Zora and carried her out of the warehouse and put her in the car. He drove away and only looked back once.
Sark quickly walked over to a crate that he just opened and started to look through the crate. He didn’t find anything so he quickly opened another crate and to his luck he found the device. He quickly ran out of the room and when he was running down the hall he was tackled by Weiss who ended up knocking him out. Another agent hand cuffed him while Weiss ran to the last room with his group and a couple of other agents. Weiss entered the room and immediately saw Evan lying on the floor dead.
“Oh God.” Weiss said as he looked Evan’s body.
“What’s wrong Weiss?” Jack asked.
“Evan’s dead.” Weiss spoke quickly.
“Vaughn, Sydney!” Weiss yelled.
“They are in the middle of the room.” Jack informed Weiss.
Weiss ran as quickly as he could followed by Ashwick. Weiss finally came to a stop and let out a scream.
“Oh God no no no. Someone get a medic now Sydney and Vaughn are hurt! Sydney’s lost a lot of blood. Hurry up and get a medic” Weiss yelled.
When Jack heard this he took off his headphones and walked out of the room.
“Jack. Jack. Jack!” Kendall called after Jack.
Jack ignored Kendall and everyone else around him. He wished Sydney never went on this mission. He wished he had went with them. Jack walked out of the Op Center and got in his car. He pulled out of the parking lot and drove to the park. He stopped his car and broke down crying. Yes, Jack Bristow broke down for the first time in a long time. The man who hid his feelings could not hide them anymore.
Two days later in the hospital Vaughn woke up and found Weiss sitting by him in a chair. Vaughn tried to get up out of bed, but Weiss stopped him.
“Hey dude slow down. You need to take it easy. You are back home in LA. You have fifteen stitches in your side you lost a lot blood. You’re a lucky man to still be here.” Weiss said quickly.
“Why are you here?” Vaughn stated.
“Because I’m your friend and don’t worry I will be leaving next week to visit Darla. By the way we got the device.” Weiss smiled.
“Where’s Sydney? Where is she Eric?” Vaughn asked wanting an answer.
“She’s in the room across from yours. You just have to walk across the hall and you’ll be in her room.” Weiss informed Vaughn.
“I want to see her.” Vaughn said softly.
“Okay you’re going to have to sit in a wheelchair.” Weiss laughed.
“I don’t have two broken legs. I can walk.” Vaughn said as he got out of bed and started to walk to the door.
“Okay fine suit yourself.” Weiss said as he followed Vaughn out of the room.
Weiss stopped outside the door of Sydney room and watched as Jack shook Vaughn’s hand. He watched as Vaughn sat down in Jack’s chair and took Sydney’s hand in his. Jack walked out of the room and told Weiss to give them some privacy.
“Hey.” Sydney said as she looked at Vaughn.
“Hey.” Vaughn said as he kissed her on the lips.
“Your face has a big bruise on it.” Sydney said as she held onto Vaughn’s hand.
“Yeah I got that from Boris when he punched me. I thought I lost you.” Vaughn spoke with a shaky voice.
Sydney helped Vaughn onto her bed so she could be closer to him. They talked for along time and also sat in silence until they fell asleep in each others arms. Jack walked into the room and watched his daughter sleep peacefully with the man she loved. A smile spread across his face before he walked out of the room.
The End
