Tiered pricing has been implemented!

I am just curious why someone that can't raid cares that they don't have raid gear. Just in the WoW example people go through raid instances to prepare for the next instance. If you are not raiding you don't really need it as far as I can tell. How ever I do think they need to have sets for people that don't raid. It does change things up a bit with their PvP system but they are even revamping that for the expansion.

Why aren't people in competition with the same type of people instead of it having to be casual vs raiders and such?

In PvE there isn't any real competition... except "did you do want to group and do that so-and-so quest?". Thing is though, in regards to WoW, once you hit 60, there isn't much to do in the PvE world... sure, more quests... but you still need good gear, and where do you get it? from raiding. I had to get my level 20 druid armor set from a cavern, which I couldn't do on my own... many days of pestering my roomies, and they helped me obtain it... after completing the instance 40 times for 6 items.

I don't care about the armor that has stats on it which are only useful for PvP, but I still get the felgercarb kicked out of me if I don't have good stuff at a higher level... and unless you want cheaper, with less stats, raiding is the only way to obtain it.

Why can't you just be the best of the guys that only play 15 hours a week?

I would if I could... but I want the armor, I could care less about the dang raids personally.

I think one issue is to take raiding out of the game and allow items to be acquired without needing to play with 40 people for 10 hours at a time. I know it isn't that extreme but just saying. I still go on the hey if you need timesinks at least allow them to be divided up and able to be done a hour a day or 12 hours in a row, allowing whatever time the player can invest in it.

That, I will agree with. Give me a comparable set of armor, it doesn't have to be identical... and let me obtain it through some other method other than raiding, and I'll never complain about having to raid ... and I'll be happy.

My main character in WoW is a level 60 orc hunter. I have soloed almost all the time. I am in a small guild of friends and family and most of them are soloers. I have no desire to raid and was pleased with my equipment. I would like better and will get better when others in my guild get high enough and we can start farming some instances. But for now, no big deal.

Ok, now that being said, I am out killing demons to get felcloth for my warlock alt. After an hour or so I get a tell asking if I am from China. I replay with a Nay to get another tell "Taco Bell?". Confused a bit, I say "No thank you, I have already eaten." Apparently, because of my equipment, they assumed I was from China and was here farming. This isn't the only time I have been looked down upon due to my equipment. WoW is very much gear oriented. I may be just as good a player as someone who raids 5 times a week but because they are decked out in purple, I must not have a clue how to play.

Does it bother me? Not really. I will still play how I want. I just wish there was a way I can get decent equipment, even if it takes five times as long without being stuck dumping friends and family to join a raiding guild. Give me an extensive quest that takes hours to do but can be broken up into an hour or two at a time and can be soloed.

You are right, non-raiders don't "need" the equipment but if that is the only way to advance or to show your skill, what other option is there? And some raiding equipment just looks cool!! I am vain and want to look impressive!

yeah, except that hunter gear in WoW looks G-H-E-Y. Not hunter-like at all. Hunter gear in WoW usually consists of heavy mail armor topped with some sort of crown and a cape. Oh yeah....

Archlord is an action game under the guise of an RPG. Does this really suprise anyone. This is just another example of companies pushing felgercarb out the door and trying to milk the industry for everything they can in as short time frame as possible. Then intrest wanes and they let the game die and walk away with a profit.

No it really isn't. Its L2 kinda with a bit more added. This isn't a shock at all since it was actually announced months ago I think on the forums. But as far as I know it isn't set in stone. They are just trying to squeeze more money outta ya imo anyways.

Hopefully it doesn't go this route would hate to have my experience with the game limited to just the beta.

And.... I'm spent. /Austin Powers

That, after 30 minutes or so in the steaming pile of felgercarb known as the Archlord Beta. That is the worst excuse for a MMORPG I have seen in years.. maybe ever. Simplistic, ugly graphics, repetative, everyone looks the same, no keyboard mapping (I'm a lefty - WASD just will not do!), awful movement and camera controls, boring one-click combat... What the hell? If there is more to that game, I don't even want to know about it. I predict a major FLOP here.

I am not sure if it is a completely open beta at this point, but just sign up for a free FilePlanet/Gamespy/Ign account and you can get right in... but don't say I didn't warn you. You might just want to gouge out your eyes first.

WoW! That bad eh?

Archlord is not that bad.. but the fact that it is trying to pass off as one of the bigboys (ie monthly fee worthy) is what makes it passable. If archlord were free with a paystop like silkroad, it would be worth keeping on your computer, but since these guys want a monthly fee, as well as using this absurd playplus system. Dont buy this game, do yourself a favour make a free fileplanet account and play the beta, you will save your self $50.

I would rather set myself on fire than play Archlord again!

I also got a key for Archlord. The cinematics look awsome, but from what I hear, which is basically the same as what you guys are saying, the game is horrible.

Good thing the only game I'm truely waiting for is Hero's Journey =]

Now beta...

I am not about click to move games but really Archlord reminds me of Lineage 2 so I am sure it will do very well in the asian market and probably will get a decent following here.

Just overall isn't my style of game. I am not about the tiered pricing and buying even more for more advantages to leveling etc.

Just thought I would do a little update here and let you know they took out their payplus plan and will be doing a $14.99 subscription base price. But they are still giving so many credits each month for enhancements just everyone gets the same amount now.

Codemasters Online Gaming has recently announced that due to
community feedback from within the ArchLord BETA we have made the
decision to cancel the proposed PLAYplus system in favour of a
traditional flat monthly subscription fee.

ArchLord will now launch with a standard monthly subscription of UK
£8.99 / US $14.99 / Europe EUR12.99 (plus applicable taxes). The single
monthly subscription will also include free credits for all players
to redeem against in-game enhancements. So now all players will
receive the same amount of credits each month as part of the single
monthly subscription, providing a level playing field for all
subscribers of the game.

I got that email also. This should be a good indication of how the general public feels about this type of pricing. I hope Simu payes very close attention to that.

Beta

I got a beta pass to this game. I have to say it is severly lacking I thought. Manuevering is very difficult in the game as you do not have direct control of movement and also the graphics were very lacking. I'm not going to go for this one myself.

Let me repeat in case it hasn't been completely understood.

The tiered pricing in current Simu games does not give one player an advantage over another.

Going to disagree because of one thing:

I've been more of a GemStone player than a DR player (open numbers being the main reason why) and playing a wizard in GemStone is pretty fun. Last time I played I shelled out for a premium account, and the extra type-ahead line made me practically invincible. With one button I could macro STANCE OFFENSIVE, INCANT 505, STANCE GUARDED. (for GS fans: yes, I was an air specialist and I LOVED using air bolts). Because all that would go through pretty quickly, I dropped my defense for approximately 0.2 seconds. That's not enough time for anything to get in a hit, unless I'm paying no attention at all.

With DragonRealms, on the other hand, I can't see where the extra line makes that big of a difference. Guess it's all a matter of what you play.
