What's Left of Me

Emily just showed Syd the picture explaining what it was, I am glad that Syd was so touced by it and loves spending time with Emily. I'm glad that Em told Vaughn about the picture. Without knowing it, Em has erased the doubt that she would have a problem with Sydney being a permanent fixture in her life as well as her father's.
Emily is adorable.

This was such an important chapter, a) Sydney learned that she was accepted as family by Emily, b) Sydney was very much involved in taking care of Emily, c) Michael discovered that the idea of his girlfriend in the family was a good one.

boy am i ever loving this story!! it's absolutely adorable!! emily is a little darling!!....haha can't wait to see how it turns out!!!

Awwww  Emily considers Syd to be family. That's a major step that hopefully Michael gets the Em has accepted Sydney. Such a cute chapter and all little Emily's questions. haha

“We supposed to draw our family,” Emily explained. Then, using her finger, she pointed out each of the figures in her drawing. “That’s me and Daddy and Gramma and Grampa and Uncle Eric and that’s you,” she said.
awww thats soo cute
Yay Emily!

I was expecting Emily to ask Michael about the 'sleepovers'. That grin would've changed into a large gulp and  .

And Emily is drawing what both Sydney and Michael really hope for. It's just taking Michael some time to get up the courage.

Looking around, she saw Emily seated on a large chair outside her preschool classroom, waving at her. Sydney glanced down at her watch and saw that it was after three-thirty; nearly an hour after the time Emily should have been picked up. “Emily, sweetie, what are you doing here?” Sydney asked as she walked over to her.

“I was forgotted,” she said sadly.
Why was Emily sitting there by herself? In our school we can't let Pre-K'ers or even Kindergarteners sit anywhere by themselves. For all grades if someone doesn't come to pick them up by a certain time, we take them to the office to call home to see if someone can come get them.

“You were forgotten? Did someone forget to pick you up? Was it Eric?” Sydney asked, sensing that was something he may have done.
That does sound like something Eric would do.

“Gramma forgot you? Okay, well why don’t we go to the office and give Gramma a call, okay?”

There was no answer, which made Sydney slightly concerned that something had happened.
That does give cause for concern.

When he finally did she informed him of Emily’s situation, asking whether or not Michael had heard from his mother.

“No…it’s really unlike her to do something like this,” Michael said, concern evident in his voice. “Lemme try her cell phone and I’ll call you back, okay?”

Sydney agreed before hanging up and taking a seat beside Emily.

After another minute, the receptionist patched Michael’s phone call through to the phone Sydney had been using a few minutes earlier. “She had car trouble. She’s not going to make it to the school and I’ve got a meeting in ten minutes so I won’t be able to get there for at least an hour,” Michael groaned, his tone indicating his stress.
Welcome to the stresses of parenthood. I'm relieved that Amelie only had car trouble. I was afraid that she had been in an accident. She should have called the school when she knew she wouldn't be able to pick Emily up, then she should have called Michael to let him know.

“Look what I made,” Emily said, handing Sydney a large roll of paper that was protruding from her tiny backpack.

Sydney took it carefully and unrolled it. “Wow, this looks great. What is it?”

“We supposed to draw our family,” Emily explained. Then, using her finger, she pointed out each of the figures in her drawing. “That’s me and Daddy and Gramma and Grampa and Uncle Eric and that’s you,” she said.
That was so sweet, she included Sydney and Eric in her family. I loved Sydney's reaction, it gave her something to hope for.

I'm glad Michael didn't freak out about the family picture. I hope it gave him some ideas.

I hope Sydney gets to have more sleepovers since Emily has accepted that grown-up boyfriends and girlfriends can have sleepovers.
