Hi everyone!
So, originally this story was going to be my attempt at the holiday fiction challenge but I am chickening out. Mostly because an idea for the challenge popped into my head due to my very first story with the little girl named Jolie and her special locket.
But then I figured people would want/need to read the original story for this little fic-let to make sense so I decided I'd just write it for myself and the Jolie fans and post it.
So, enjoy this light little story for the holidays. NOTE-- This is NOT the sequel to Retrieving the Weapon. (<- Link to original fic). That is still being worked on...this is sort of like a "what takes place a few months after that story ended."
This is an AU story based on Retrieving the Weapon (which was also an A/U story taking place during S4.) S/V love & family. Mostly fluff, some light drama.
I do not own anything except my imagination and of course, Jolie. Enjoy and have a great holiday season.
I'll do PM's since my posting for this might be sporadic. Let me know if you want one.
COMING TOGETHER
“Mom…Mom. As much as we love you…and Dad…and Nadia, Vaughn and I have firmly decided we’re spending Jolie’s first Christmas here on a getaway with just the three of us.” Sydney said, cutting off her mother’s rambles on the phone. “She’s still adjusting to living with her parents. Seriously, she’s only been here a few months and we all spent Thanksgiving together. So get over it!” After listening to the rest of Irina’s rant, Sydney said the conversation was over and hung up the phone to walk into the living room where her fiancé and four-year-old daughter were snuggled on the couch watching Shrek.
After accidentally finding their daughter (who Sydney believed to have been dead since she was three days old) four months ago on a mission, Sydney and Vaughn were doing everything they could to make the little girl feel more comfortable with her newfound family. And they had decided that a family trip to Disney World in Florida would be the perfect way to celebrate Christmas and New Years.
Vaughn looked up as Sydney approached and settled on the couch with them. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, Mom is just upset that we’re going away. But I don’t care…we need this,” she replied, glancing down at her little angel and stroking her hair.
Vaughn gave her a small smile and reached over to gently squeeze her shoulder. The three of them sat in a comfortable silence for the remainder of the movie. When it ended, Sydney pulled her daughter into her lap. “You excited about tomorrow, sweetie?”
Jolie nodded vigorously. “I can’t wait to see Cinderella’s castle!” Her parents laughed, not at all surprised that this was number one on her list of things to see as Vaughn had called her “princess” almost since the first day he met her.
“Well then, we should put you to bed because tomorrow is going to be a big day!” They watched as Jolie’s face fell.
“Can’t I stay up a little longer?” She asked, looking at her father hopefully.
Vaughn stood and reached out to take her into his arms. “Sorry, princess. You need your beauty sleep.” She giggled as he lifted her and settled in his arms, gently fingering the locket she never took off. It contained a picture of her mom on one side, dad on the other, and it was like her security blanket. It made her remember that her parents loved her when they were separated (even by small things like bedtime).
He carried her down the hallway of Sydney’s apartment and into her bedroom, gently placing her in bed and handing her the stuffed rabbit she never spent a night without. “Good night, princess. I love you.”
“I love you too, Daddy.” He smiled down at her and kissed her cheek before telling her that Sydney would be in shortly to say good night. Flipping on her nightlight, he left the room to find his fiancée straightening the couch pillows. He smiled to himself, excited to give her the Christmas gift he had purchased a few weeks prior.
“What are you smiling about, Mr. Vaughn?” She asked in a teasing tone as he wrapped his arms around her.
“Nothing. I just love you and can’t wait until we’re married.” She smiled and kissed him quickly before disappearing into Jolie’s room.

Jolie was a ball of excitement as soon as they stepped off the plane into the bright Florida sunshine around four in the afternoon the next day. “Can we go see the castle now?!” She asked, dancing around her parents as they waited for their luggage.
“In a little while, sweetheart. We have to go to the hotel and settle in. Then we’ll head over to the Magic Kingdom for dinner.”
“Okaaaaaaayyyyyyyy,” she sighed.
After the small family had checked into the Grand Floridian hotel, they decided to grab an early dinner at one of the hotel restaurants before heading over to the Magic Kingdom. Jolie could barely sit still during the meal with her excitement growing each minute. Finally, the check was paid and Vaughn announced they were heading to the theme park to play a bit and watch the fireworks at 9:00 p.m.
As they walked through the gates onto Main Street, Jolie was wide-eyed with amazement as Cinderella’s castle lay right in front of her. She stopped walking and just simply stared until Vaughn swept her up in his arms.
“Do you want your picture taken in front of the castle, sweetie?” He asked gently. She nodded and he placed her on the ground and backed up so he could get the full castle in the background of the picture. “Smile, princess!” Jolie’s face lit up with a huge grin and Vaughn snapped a few pictures of her enjoying her first glance of Disney World.
Afterwards they headed over to Fantasyland where they rode Cinderella’s Golden Carousel, Peter Pan’s Flight and It’s a Small World among other rides before gathering among the crowd to watch the nighttime fireworks and parade. As the parade drew to a close around 9:45 and the crowd made their way to the monorail system that would take them back to their hotels, Jolie was half asleep on Vaughn’s shoulder.
Sydney gently rubbed Jolie’s back while they stood in line for the train and asked her if she had a good time.
“Uh huh,” the little girl mumbled with a sleepy voice. “Can’t wait for tomorrow. Is it Christmas yet?”
Sydney and Vaughn chuckled lightly. “Soon, sweetie,” Sydney said softly, still rubbing circles on Jolie’s back. “Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. We’re having a special dinner tomorrow night,” she said, winking at Vaughn. At the mention of the word “special,” Jolie struggled to sit up straighter in her father’s arms.
“Special? What do you mean?”
“You’ll just have to wait and see.”
“No fair…” the little girl started to whine but ended with a huge yawn. Her parent's smiled as Vaughn passed her off to Sydney and they boarded the monorail.
