or is this going to end with like, him never coming home b/c he is dead?

By soon, that should mean in several months- more months of agonizing waiting. The Army's SOP is to have them stationed in a war zone for a year. It will be less than a year, of course, if he's been wounded and didn't mention it in the letter, because he didn't want Sydney and his mother to know he was hurt. :(

But the good thing is that he finally acknowledged that night together, his feelings for her and apologized about leaving her without saying goodbye. :D
