Chapter Thirteen

“Vaughn, what are you doing in there?” Sydney looked at Vaughn in total confusion. Vaughn looked into Sydney’s eyes and then looked at her father and Weiss. “Dad, can you leave us alone.” Weiss and Jack both opened their mouths to argue but Sydney spoke first. “Now!” she said in a very intimidating voice. They both turned on their heels and left. Vaughn walked closer to the glass when they had left.
“Sydney, let me explain.” Vaughn sighed and looked up at Sydney. He took a deep breath and began. He told the whole thing, from the minute he walked into the room, to the time Jack took him and Lennox away. When he told her about Will, it looked like she had been stabbed in the heart but when he told her about Francie, she immediately started sobbing. When he stopped her cheeks were stained with tears. “You don’t know how hard it is for me not try to brake this stupid window down and hold you in my arms until everything in the world becomes right again. Every thing is such a disaster.” Vaughn placed his hands on the window and Sydney put her hands on the opposite side. “I love you Sydney.” He said lovingly. Sydney sniffed and looked into Vaughn’s eyes.
“Vaughn, I have to tell you something…”Sydney looked at Vaughn’s eager eyes. Then turned her head to the side.
“What?” Vaughn said in a concerned voice.
“I-I can’t” Sydney mumbled.
“Syd…” Vaughn pleaded. Sydney wiped her eyes and looked into his eyes again.
“I have to go.” She said in a much more sure voice.
“No…” Vaughn said as Sydney took two steps back.
“I promise, I’ll do every thing I can to get you out!” Sydney turned around to leave and Vaughn called out to her, pounding his fist on the glass.
“Sydney come back, please, I love you, came back!!!!” he called to her. Sydney turned around for a second.
“I believe your story, I love you Vaughn. Try and hold your self together, I’ll try to get an entering pass so I can tell you to you, not though a glass, I’ll be back. Do it for all of us!” Sydney quickly ran out of the room and left Vaughn’s view. Vaughn slowly stopped pounding his fist. He leaned his head on the glass and began to sob. What Sydney said was slowly starting to register in his mind.
“Us?”

Chapter fourteen

Sydney ran out of Vaughn’s holding place with one thing on her mind. Lennox. She found her dad.
“Here... is... Lennox?” she panted as she skidded to a hold in front of jack.
“that is classified information. For CIA employees only.” Jack said flatly.
“dad, come on, this is important.” Sydney pleaded.
“sorry Sydney, I can’t tell you. You don’t have the authorization to see him. You quite the CIA, remember?” Jack reminded her.
“I’m not authorized to see him, yet I am authorized to be treated in the CIA hospital and see Vaughn?”
“that’s different. You collapsed in the hospital wing. They had to take you in and the reason why agent Weiss and I took you to see agent Vaughn was because we felt it was necessary that you hear the story from him. Yet as I see that you are so determined to bring all the rules to my attention, you are not longer permitted to see agent Vaughn.”
“What? you can’t do that! I have to see him!” Sydney protested.
“You don’t have the authority to see him, and for that matter, you have no authority to be in this building. Please leave.”
“Dad! You can’t kick me out! I practically lived here fore almost two years!” Sydney screamed.
“Sydney, you don’t work here anymore! You gave up all your privileges when you quit. Now leave!” Jack ordered.
“I’m not going anywhere!” Sydney argued
“Leave or I’ll have to get someone to escort you out!”
“But-” Sydney began to protest but when she saw the look on Jack face she stopped. She turned on her heals and didn’t look back until she was strapped into her car. Sydney looked longingly at the door. Then turned the key in the car.
When Sydney got home all she wanted to do was be alone. She sat on her couch with a cup of coffee on one hand and the picture frame Vaughn had given her in the other. A tear spilled from her eye and fell with a small splash on the picture frame.
“Vaughn…” she whispered. “I believe you. I’ll find a way to get you back.”
