Interesting. The man who ordered Sydney killed loves her more than the man who risked his life and cover to save her (Truth Be Told)? I find that difficult to agree with. Jack has risked his life to save Sydney's time and again. The evidence indicates that when "Laura" "died," he rebuilt his life around Sydney. She's really all he has. Sloane's priority, meanwhile, is obsession for Rambaldi, and he's proven that he'll sacrifice Sydney to it, love her or not. Just because Jack has a difficult time expressing emotion doesn't mean that he feels none.Milo47 said:Jack doesn't seem like he thinks of Syd as a daughter during the show....Sloane seems like he loves her more than Jack does.
As for parentage, good question. I still feel that Jack's father-daughter relationship with Sydney is a cornerstone of the series and if Sloane should appear to be her father, that will turn out to be a red herring. I'll need verification. Should Sloane turn out to be Sydney's father, and should Jack be aware of that fact, it would make his love for her all the more poignant, but I don't think, in the long run, that it would be a good thing for the series--because what tie would Sydney then feel for the father from whom she has been estranged most of her life? What then explains the deeper bond between them?
It would, however, be interesting to find that both Sloane and Jack believed that Sloane was Sydney's biological father when, in fact, her father were actually Jack. And if Irina were in the position of incubating a "prophecy child" and had the choice, why wouldn't she pull a switch on Sloane and select the father herself? Perhaps someone she loved? Jack's importance to Sloane, moreover, indicates that he has an important, rather than peripheral, role in all this. Sure, I could be wrong.
As for Sark's parentage: I think it's quite likely that Irina is his mother. His age was made a point of, indicating that Irina might well have been pregnant upon her departure. And--yes, there's a soapish tinge--as I've mentioned, it's possible that Irina, knowing that she was escaping and knowing that she might never see Jack again, chose to become pregnant by him. The timing of that pregnancy suggests Jack as the father. The timing of Sydney is more equivocal.
As for Irina: Irina is not a modest woman. She is a tigress who uses her sexuality to get what she wants. It's clearly indicated that this includes climbing into bed with the men who can get her what she wants (from the arrogant Cuvee, for example). But I doubt seriously that she's so careless as to get pregnant without planning to do so.
Sorry this was so long!
