Not The Same

eh, i'm getting bored. when i'm bored, i read, or update.

but i said i'd update NTS tuesday... but//// i'm bored, and i have nothing to read.

darn commitment. just watch, 12:01 Monday night there will be an update.

when i come back from bluesfest tonight, maybe there'll be an update waiting for me! ;) :D

I am in such a giddy mood. really. i'm bouncing off the walls. i also haven't had caffiene or sugar today, so i can't blame it on anything other than the prospect of meeting Sam Roberts twice in the same week. (I ran into him near my cottage... isn't that random?) do you know who he is? because if not, then it doesn't matter... :(

Chapter 11

“You wanna, um… come over today? Like, to do homework.” Sydney stammered on the walk home. “I mean, it’s still early.” She had never asked a boy over and this wasn’t just any boy. This was the guy she liked. This was the guy she had almost kissed last weekend.

“Um, if that’s ok with you.” Michael agreed, as they bypassed his house and continued towards hers. “I really need some help on that English stuff.”

“Don’t worry, I’m awesome at it.” She smiled up at him and he grinned back. “It’s pretty simple.”

“No it’s not, Mrs. Wagner is totally evil.” He frowned. “It’s like she just plots against us!” Sydney laughed, knowing that this was the common opinion of all the students who were not doing well in her class.

The minute they walked in the door, Michael could hear the sounds of her father in the kitchen. He was about to walk into the livingroom when Sydney grabbed his hand. It sent sparks through him and he didn’t know what was wrong with him. Her hand felt so right in his.

“Upstairs.” She said quietly, pulling him up the steps and down the hallway. They entered her room and Michael took in the purple walls, covered in shelves of books. He would have thought it was a library if there weren’t a bed in the middle of the room.

“Nice room.” He complimented, sitting on the bed and taking off his backpack.

“Thanks, um… you can just set up on the floor here.” She suddenly felt nervous, why had she brought him into her room? This was her private sanctuary where she came to escape the world, it felt weird to think of what Michael was thinking about her room. He probably thought she was a freak.

“Okay.” He set out his books on the floor while she walked over to her ‘currently reading’ shelf and grabbed a novel. “You’re not gonna do yours?” He asked.

“Well… I sorta already did it.” She blushed, now he must think she was an even bigger dork.

“Like, when?” He asked, raising his eyebrow.

“Over the weekend.” She answered, hiding behind her book.

“That’s just pitiful, Dimples.” He sighed and she knew there was no way he would ever like a girl like her. She was just a smart, friendly girl that he could work his charm on to gain help with his grades. “We need to get you out more.” He continued, and her previous thoughts faded. He was just teasing. Ok, that wasn’t so bad.

“It’s no big deal.” She set her book down in front of her on the bed. “It gives me more time to read.” She shrugged, admitting that it was her favorite hobby and hoping he wouldn’t judge her.

“You’ve read all this?” He looked around at all the shelves.

“Well…” She explained. “Those, I’ve read already,” She pointed to the wall mostly covered in what must be hundreds of books. “These are the ones I’m currently reading,” She pointed to a built-in shelf by her bed neatly stacked with at least thirty books. “And those, I haven’t started yet.” She pointed to the wall opposite her bed that also contained the door, but was equally stacked with books.

“Wow.” He said in amazement.

"Well, I can also read on my laptop." She added.

"How?" Michael wondered aloud.

“Like online fanfics… Stories with characters from a show or movie or something.” She explained and he nodded, understanding what she meant. “There's this one, Foolish Ways, and it’s totally awesome.” She blushed, realizing she was rambling and adverted her eyes. “Well, there’s not much else to do.” She sighed, opening her novel as Michael shook his head and started on his work.

They worked quietly for almost twenty minutes before Michael was interrupted by Sydney whining.

“God, I hate this book!” She sighed, stuck her bookmark on the page, and dropped it on the floor.

“Then stop reading it.” Michael suggested with a goofy smile.

“I can’t.” She whimpered, hiding her face in her hands to cover the blush she knew was coming.

“Why?” He asked, dropping his pen and intently staring at her.

“I can’t just start a book and not finish it!” She said, as if it were the most preposterous thing in the world. “I’m a little OCD about things like that…” Michael laughed and soon Sydney was giggling at herself. “It’s slightly stupid, isn’t it?”

“Nah, it’s completely normal.” He said in a straight face, she almost believed him. “Ok, so it’s kinda weird.” He admitted and started laughing again. Getting stiff from lying on the floor, he stood up to stretch and look at the different books around the room.

He saw titles like “The Truth About Forever” by Sarah Dessen, “A Gathering of Spies” by John Altman, “Bet Me” by Jennifer Crusie, “The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants” by Anne Brashares, among other random genres and authors.

“You got like, everything, don’t you?” He joked, coming upon a special looking section on the not started wall. They were very different from all the other books. They were old and dusty, hardbound books. He pulled one carefully from the shelf and flipped through a few pages. “God, Syd, is this Russian?”

She quickly got up off the bed and grabbed the book from him, gently replacing it on the shelf. “Those are my mom’s.” She said reverently, dusting them off with her fingers.

“Do you speak Russian?” He asked, looking at her. He wouldn’t put it past her, she was very smart and had a lot of free time.

“Nyet.” She answered, and he assumed that was negative. “I will one day.” She corrected.

“Cool.” He sat back down on the floor and continued on his work as she picked up her book and continued reading, helping him when he needed it.

TBC...Review Please!

I wish I could speak Russian.

Oh no. If Jack comes home to see Sydney in her bedroom with a boy (even if they are studying) he'll flip! I can't wait to see if that happens! :D
