hi there ^_^

i think i'm gonna start calling him balls of steel.

He went slightly pink. “They’re not tights...”
this totally brought back "breakfast club": "i wear the required wrestling uniform." "tights." "shut up!"

“You gonna make it?” she asked him quietly.
“Me? Oh yeah... I’m cool,” he said rather unconvincingly.
“Mmhmm, you know wearing those tights wouldn’t really hide much, so you better be,”
this had me rolling silently, since i AM at work... surprised that she'd say it out loud. daring!syd, you go girl!

“Wow, I, uh, never thought I’d be kissed by a guy wearing tights,” she said softly.
at least she's not laughing at him anymore!

can't wait for the date. hope he doesn't wear a dress... LOL!

great update, thanks for the pm!!!

holy freakin' early ya'll :thud:
i've got a final :(

Chapter 10

“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god,” Sydney repeated that phrase the whole way back to her dorm room, louder and louder until she was practically squealing when she walked into her room.

“Jeez, what?” Nadia asked from her seat at her computer.

“Michael just kissed me!” she squealed.

“WHAT?!” Nadia gasped in so much shock that she nearly flipped her chair backwards. She stood up and squealed along with her sister. “HE KISSED YOU?!”

“Uh huh,” Sydney nodded, sill in disbelief.

“Oh my god!” Nadia giggled. “Tell me everything!”

“Well, he’s in my ballet class and-”

“Wait,” Nadia interrupted her with a snort of laughter. “He’s in your ballet class?!”

“Yeah, it was a bet apparently. And I was making fun of his tights and-”

“Wait,” Nadia interrupted again. “He was wearing tights?!” she gasped. Sydney nodded. “What did his.... you know look like?”

“NA-DI-AAAAAA,” Sydney groaned loudly. “That’s sick!”

“But a valid point,” she said.

“He was wearing track pants,” Sydney rolled her eyes.

Bummer,” she groaned. “Sorry, continue.”

“Anyway, so I was laughing at him because he totally sucks at ballet-”

“Syd, that’s not the best way to attract a guy,” Nadia interrupted her sister for the third time.

“Are you gonna freakin' let me talk?!” Sydney shouted.

“Jeez, sooor-ry,” Nadia rolled her eyes.

“Anyway, so class ended and I was packing up my things and he asked me for help and I tried to help him but he fell over and I was like kneeling down to see if he was ok and he just... sat up and kissed me,” she sighed.

“Aww,” Nadia grinned. “Syd, that’s so sweet!”

“I know and then he asked me to dinner,” she told her.

“OO!! Did you say yes?” she asked hopefully. Sydney nodded. “YES!!! Ok, ok... hurry back from your class then, so we can pretty you up. You cannot go to dinner in sweats tonight.”

“But-” Sydney began to protest.

“No buts, Bristow. He’s going to find out you’re a slob sooner or later anyway, but it should NOT be on the first date,” Nadia told her.

“I’m not a slob,” Sydney defended.

“No... but you dress like one,” Nadia said with a hand on her hip. Sydney opened her mouth to deny, but there was no point; it was true, so she just agreed and then went to shower before her class.

~*~

“Okay, ahh, I’m nervous!” Sydney said in a panicky way as she and Nadia were walking to dinner.

“It’s okay Syd, take a deep breath. It’s just dinner in the cafe,” she told her.

“But.... but what if I spill food on myself,” she whimpered.

“Then he’ll laugh at you and so will I,” Nadia smiled.

“NOT HELPING,” Sydney wailed.

“Okay, okay,” Nadia sighed. “You’re going to be fine. You look a thousand times better than normal and remember the hardest part is over. He’s already kissed you, which means that the chances of you screwing this up are already slim,” Nadia smiled.

“Thanks,” Sydney said weakly.

“Oh look, there he is,” Nadia pointed towards Michael, who was pacing outside the entrance to the cafeteria. “Good luck,” Nadia muttered before shoving her sister in Michael’s direction.

“H-hi,” Sydney stammered.

“Hey,” Michael smiled at her, looking rather nervous himself. “You ready?”

“Uh huh,” she nodded. Then, they got in line behind Nadia, who kept turning around and making various sad, goofy, and obnoxious faces at them. “Ignore her, she’s off her medication,” Sydney told Michael quietly.

He laughed. “Your sister?”

“Uh huh,” Sydney nodded.

“I guess I’ll eat alone because my poor sister abandoned me,” Nadia said rather loudly in a helpless voice. Sydney rolled her eyes.

“She can eat with us... I mean, I don’t mind,” Michael told Sydney.

“She’s just being a brat. Ignore her and I’ll smother her in her sleep later,” Sydney sighed, making a mental note to do just that since her sister wasn’t making things any easier for her.

“Is she your roommate?” Michael asked.

“YEP,” Sydney sighed.

“Funny, I’d have thought the two of you got along then,” Michael laughed once they were hanging up their coats and Nadia was out of earshot.

“Oh we do,” Sydney assured him. “She’s my best friend. She’s just messing with me on purpose because she enjoys torturing me.”

“Little siblings,” he laughed with a smile.

“Yeah,” she groaned. “Do you have one?”

“Nah, I’m an only child. But my best friend Eric has two younger brothers and I’ve been around them enough to know,” he explained.

She nodded. “I see.”

“So, um, how were your other classes today?” Michael asked her.

“Oh, you mean aside from dance where there was this really pathetic guy in tights,” she smiled. He groaned. She giggled, “They were good. Yours?”

“Pretty good... my engineering class is gonna be pretty hard though, I think,” he cringed.

“Oh that sucks, but it’s better than Chem, right?” she suggested hopefully.

“Much,” he agreed firmly. She smiled. “So where are you from?”

“Really close by here actually. Only about twenty minutes away,” she told him.

“Wow, that’s close. Why’d you decide to come here?” he asked.

She shrugged. “I liked the school and I didn’t want to go too far away from home. Then my sister, who originally said she wanted to go to California so she could have the entire country in between us and her, followed me,” she laughed.

“Really? What changed her mind?” he asked.

“Not sure really, but I think it's because after I left for school we became best friends and then she didn’t want to leave. Before then we weren’t really close... we never fought or hated each other or anything, we just weren’t close close, you know?” she asked; he nodded with a smile. “What about you? Where are you from?”

“Maryland, about an hour and a half away,” he told her.

“Oh yeah? What brought you here then?” she asked.

“They have a good engineering program and the best a capella group on the East Coast, so...,” he shrugged.

“It was destiny then,” she smiled.

“Right,” he laughed.

After they grabbed their dinner and continued to chat, Sydney felt more relaxed, but not exactly relaxed enough to really eat, unlike Michael, who was finishing plate after plate. “So... you’re one of those people with the really fast metabolisms who can’t gain weight if they try, right?” she laughed slightly at him.

“What? Oh,” he laughed down at his empty plates of food. “I guess.”

“Lucky. I used to be fat so, sadly, I can’t do that,” she sighed down at her salad.

“You used to be fat? The dancer? Nope, don’t believe it,” he told her.

“I was!” she insisted. “When I stopped dancing, I porked out.”

“So you gained five pounds?” he suggested with a smile.

No,” she rolled her eyes. “I really was fat.”

“I think I’d need to see photographic proof of that,” he said seriously.

She laughed. “There is none; I burned them all.”

“Bummer,” he groaned. “So, tell me something, what’s your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night.”

Sydney laughed slightly at the randomness of his question. “Okay...?”

“Just answer,” he smiled.

“Um... I guess... just curl up on the couch with a blanket and a movie... or sometimes a book,” she shrugged. “Why?”

“Nothing,” he smiled.

“No seriously, why?” she asked.

“I was just wondering,” he told her honestly.

“Uh huh,” she said suspiciously. “So what would your answer be?”

“The same... or sleep,” he laughed. She smiled and nodded recalling his screen name. “Contrary to popular belief – or what popular belief may be- I’m not exactly a party animal.”

“Oh? You mean the Sus-capella guys don’t throw wild parties?” Sydney raised an eyebrow.

“They do; I just don’t go,” he told her. “Or if I do, I don’t stay.”

Sydney smiled softly and looked back down at her food. She wasn’t expecting that answer from him, but she was very glad to hear it. It added a tiny bit of hope to the thought that maybe Michael Vaughn could be boyfriend material since she could never be with someone who was a partier.

“Well, um, I hate to go but I gotta get to practice. What’s your schedule for tomorrow?” he asked.

“I have a class at eleven and that’s it,” she told him.

“Me too, wanna grab lunch after?” he asked. She nodded. “Okay, I’ll see you then, Syd,” he smiled before grabbing his tray and leaving.

Once he was gone, Sydney let out a long sigh and leaned back in her seat slightly. Only a moment later, her sister appeared in the chair Michael had just vacated grinning broadly. Sydney laughed. “Were you watching us?”

“Yes,” Nadia said. “How’d it go?”

“Really good, actually... we’re having lunch tomorrow.”

Nadia squealed happily. “You’ve got a boyfriend! THERE IS A GOD!” she shouted towards the sky.

“Nadia!” Sydney tried to quiet her sister. “It’s just lunch.”

“But you know what lunch leads to,” she said with a suggestive eyebrow raise. Sydney rolled her eyes.
