That's funny, because I was shocked at how many people in the Western world are still prejudiced against gay people!!
I'm not gay, but it's only been since I have been visiting message boards like this one that I realised I live in a pretty easy and accepting society. It was just never an issue where I grew up. It helped that I grew up in a theatre family, so I knew a lot of gay people right from when I was little.

Well...I just meant that at least there are people here fighting for gay marriage, whereas in my community almost EVERYONE hates them...

I didn't know gays had a hidden agenda in getting the gay-marriage accepted

I gotta go around and ask and then, if we really have one ... maybe we can conquer the world  and convert everybody to gay

I am just kidding here

Did you guys see Wife Swap last week???

This gay couple went to swap with a religious and republican family ... so, one lesbian went to live with a straight guy, and the religious and republican wife went to live with the other lesbian ... men, that religious woman, wanted the lesbian mom to walk around like she was not a lesbian and she said that gays wanted legal rights in these marriages for financial security and not for love ... and then the lesbian told her, that whenever she would be in an accident her partner would not be able to decide anything for her, because their union was not legal ...

After the swap, the religious woman, told the other lesbian, that she felt her kids to be threatened by a perverted soul, and that she was scared of what she could have done at her house. The other one started crying and asked her why she would think she was a perverted soul ... that "it is people like you that condemn people like us ... we only want to be happy" ... ;)

Well, don't you guys get.. like a free toaster or something if you convert 10 people?

Oh my.. I only caught the tail end of it (when the families meet) and that was enough to have me screaming at my television. I can't believe people still think that way.. let alone say outloud on national tv that think that way. I just kept thinking, "Why doesn't that idiot husband speak up and say something??" I don't know.. I wish I had seen the whole thing, but it's probably better for my stress level that I didn't

free toasters??? :thud:

I don't need a free toaster ... if they can give me a BMW I will convert like 25

OK ... let me just add this ... because I am sure someone will come on here and ask if we are finding this funny ... and it is funny for us ...

anyway ... we are born gay, we are not converted ... and we do not have a perverted soul ... we just want everybody to accept us the way we are ... with our life-style, even if you don't agree with it ... don't judge us, because you are not the one to judge ...

Yes, GoGo!! Together, with all of our fellow gay friends, we will conquer the world with our homosexual agenda...but we have to wait until I grauduate and move out of my crappy town...they outnumber me greatly, and they might crush me with their gay hatred. (n)

The Wife Swap show is so screwed up anyway...they always find the most hardcore families to go on, just so that they can have biased, rude and very controversial comments on it...it's just sick how people react to gays/lesbians...like we aren't even human!

Glad you said that.. I was a tad worried my 'joke' would offend somebody. It's not that I take the issue lightly, it's just that if you don't joke about the ridiculousness of it all (meaning the discrimination) then you'd drive yourself mad. I just don't understand people that are against gay marriage, are homophobic, etc. Unfortunately, some of these people are in my family and I debate with them constantly. If I can open the eyes of just one of them, I consider it a victory. All in all though, it's sad that so much of society is hung up on something so insignificant as sexuality.. instead of focusing on the actual issue of love. And hey, as a straight girl.. I love lesbians.. Leaves more men for me after all  ;)

Yes...more men for you...but less for me!! You're right, though...we need to joke about it sometimes...being too serious all the time just isn't good for your health, or something like that. I would debate with my family on the issue, but put at risk them finding out that I'm gay and facing the wrath of "god" and their holy hate toward me...and then my life would end. (n)

So, I just had a conversation with my friend who is opposed to gay marriage. I brought up the fact that my gay friends are not pleased with Britney Spears making a joke of marriage. In no way has she shown any support for them, again this what my friends say. They find it pretty insulting because they've supported her throughout her career. She knows that has a big gay following. They need all the support they can get. It's bad enough that Better Midler said that gay men shouldn't marry because they sleep around too much. Yes, and we all know how all heterosexual marriages are the picturesque image of fidelity.

She is one of the biggest gay icons and she insults her own fans? This is the same woman that performed in bath houses before becoming a huge success. Yes, Britney and Bette are entitled to their own opinions but when they say that they love "all" their fans, it's hard for me to believe that since they don't view "all" their fans as equals.

Anyway, here's what my friend said when I brought this up. Keep in mind, she is Catholic and is opposed to gay marriage because of her religion.

"It's fine to sympathize...but, i wouldn't be out there saying i agree with it either. i don't. i don't hate anyone. i don't condemn. i'm not mean to them. i just don't agree."

I just don't get it. Remove the religious factor from this, how can someone be against gay marriage and not be homophobic? Or against gays? I've gone through this in my head over and over again and I just can't understand it. But then again, those who opposed must feel the same way about my POV. I still don't understand how gay marriage can have any affect on anyone who is not involved in one?

I think it's hilarious that suddenly everybody has become super-homophobic. Spongebob "is" gay. One of the Teletubbies "is" gay. Bert and Ernie "are" gay. Jeez, I honestly don't think it should be such an issue. And I think homophobic people are out there trying to make these characters gay!!
Those kind of things weren't an issue when I was growing up, and guess what? We're all fine. Some of us are gay, some aren't. Just like it should be.

anybody else sick of the "shakespeare was gay" craze?

Tonight's episode of the Simpsons was about how Springfield legalized gay marriage to bring tourists into the town. Homer became a ordained minister to get money and agreed to marry anyone to anybody and anything lol. He was quite hilarious. Marge's sister Patty came out of the closet. I love the Simpsons and it's great to see how they're changing with the times by making Patty gay.

 Yep, she did at least to Marge because Homer kind of made fun of her for not knowing sooner. I guess he has better gaydar than her.

Sidenote:It seems as if the White House might have ties to gay prostitution. You heard me people. Jeff Gannon/James Guckert the fake conservative journalist owns a few gay porn and prostitution websites. He has been making headlines because for the past two years he has been admitted daily access to the White House under a false name. His true identity and professional past and present were discovered by a group of liberal bloggers.

The Boston Globe had funny political cartoon about Jeff/James. here

I knew somebody was going to come out of the closet, but apparently everybody was betting on Ned Flanders. I think that may have upset some of the more religious homophobics.

Wow - it's so obvious now that I think about it!

I think this quote from Bill Maher is very appropriate for this thread.

BILL MAHER: Love is inexplicable, so let's not put any laws about marriage in our Constitution.

YAY!! Go us homosexuals!!! Yeah, I know, I have to move out of my redneck crappy-arse town soon. They definitely outnumber me here too. :hmm:

I saw that episode. It was quite interesting. But the uber religious woman pissed me off. All that she was saying about the lesbian couple's daughter being deprived and everything, and then saying it's freaky. I just wanted to yell SHUT UP! a zillion times to that woman. I hate how people don't treat GLBT people like we're human.

Very true. Go Bill Maher!

Then click on "Video" to download, it's about 4 and a half minutes and quite funny.

^ Oh yeah that ep was funny. Homer made a good point there!

I say yay too. And in reference to that simpson's ep, making gay marriage illegal is kinda dumb. It's kinda weird to incorporate religion into law. It's like church and state, blah. We have issues that are actually worth being upset over!... -_-

I missed that episode!! But I totaly agree with you...there are so many other more important issues than gay marriage...but people are too blinded by hate and bias to see that... (n)
