Aren't they!?! Like people say they are open to all and every person, no matter what...and then they find out that your "different", and suddenly the rules don't apply to you... It makes me so mad!! :boxing: ...but I can handle it... :angelic:

Many religious people say gay acts are a sin because it says so in the Bible, but the Bible also implies that it's okay to sell kids into slavery and kill homosexuals. (Old Testament) If you asked someone who thought gay acts were wrong if slavery and killing are okay, most likey the'd say "Of course not!" People take the Bible out of context and take only the parts that suit their needs and forget the rest. People obviously can't trust everything the Bible says.

That's so true...and exactly why I have such a hard time buying into the whole Christian thing...they mean well, but there are so many contradictions and problems that they fail to see...or simply don't want to see! (n)

A few years ago MTV's documentary, "True Life" had an episode called, "I'm coming out." They featured three young adults who were homosexual. There was this guy who was in his mid to late 20's and I can't remember his name, so I'll call him James. Forgive me for any inaccuracies because it's been years since I watched this episode.

James grew up in a strict Mormon household. He always knew that he was gay and came out to his sister first. She wasn't supportive and told him that he should expect to be disowned by their family. He came out to them anyway and as expected they disowned him. He was so distraught that he went to a preist and asked him for some help. The preist gave him a number of a college professor in the South known to "fix" homosexuals so they can be straight. So, James drove down to the South found the professor and asked him to "fix" him. The professor told James to buy all the gay porn magazines he could find so he can turn them into slides.

Warning, this next part is a bit graphic because it involves electrocution.

He did this at the university that he taught at. After the professor had turned the pictures into slides, he brought James into a dark room, sat James down and attached electrodes to his chest, and genitals. Using a projection machine, the professor presented the slides and sent a mild shock to James's body when they began the session. With each slide the shocks became more and more intense and this lasted for at least an hour. He showed the MTV cameras the scars on his chest and it confirms his story Soon after, James realized that he was never going to be "cured" or "fixed" of his homosexuality and tried to kill himself. He went into therapy and he is now doing fine. His family hasn't spoken to him but he now has a group of friends that he considers to be his new family.

The professor and the university deny ever being associated with James.

Whenever I think of this, I can't help but cry. It literally pains me to know how cruel we as humans can be to one another. Yes, James did choose to see this professor but it was the professor that chose to torture James just because he thinks homosexuality is a disorder that can be fixed.

I believe that sexuality is apart of our genetics, not a decision. I've met and known a lot of gay people and not one has ever said that they choose to be gay, it's just who they are and that they've always known this. So, no, I don't believe in "yestergays" like Stephen Daldry or "Hasbians" like Anne Heche. I know that I'm going to get a lot of flak for saying this, but I believe yestergays and hasbians are just individuals who are afraid to say that they're bisexual.

Personally, I can't believe that someone can claim once to be gay because I can't claim once to be Cambodian-American, I just AM and I will always and nothing can change that.

And on a different note, I saw this picture on americablog.org and had to post it

Holy Cow!! 🇳🇴 That is...very, very wrong...Oh, how I can relate to "James"...growing up Mormon...and knowing that if I come out my family will disown me... How can people be so...STUPID!!! There's no respect for life when if comes to homosexuals...as if our lives aren't worth keeping anyway...

I'm definately for gay marriage.

Ok. For all the people that are againest it can you PLEASE give me another reason besides "It's againest God, the Bible, and church". This is all I ever hear when I argue about this subject. I havent read all the posts so if someone has stated another reason just please put it in quotes or something so I'll be happy ;)

Omg. That "James" story is horrible. I wish that proffesor and the university would've gotten sued or something

I can't believe people are making a big deal out this whole SpongeBob thing. And I can't believe it took them this long to figure it out  I've always assumed that SpongeBob was a little gay. I guess that's why my cousins aren't allowed to watch SpongeBob. Took me awhile to figure that out

Exactly. I mean you put all of it together and quite a lot of things that we think are wrong today were right then. However there is the one differerence. It says that homosexuality is a sin, yet it is more accepted today.

And that is just so sad about James. :( I'm glad my family and friends are supportive of me.

I am SO sick and tired of people hiding behind the Bible. Although a moral code for SOME people, it is by no means something that can be used to govern a whole nation, with some citizens who do not live by that book, or any other religion.

We had a debate in government on it, and some girl said "it's against the bible." The bible is not the government of our nation.

What i really dispise is people who hide behind religion to justify their hate towards a minority group, or simply just a group in society. They hide behind a 'book' and sit on the fringes of society and try to bark orders out to people on how they should behave in society. I look to people like Ghandi, Martin Luther King , Josei Toda and Daisaku Ikeda for my inspiration, or mentors as you might say.

Honestly, it doesn't affect my life in any way. Why not let them marry? Will it really affect your relationships or marriages...I don't think so.

Plus it's awful to have someone who's gay come into the hospital and not be able to have their partner make any decisions for them, because it isn't a legally recognized union.

Exactly! It doesn't affect straight people in any way...if straight people don't like it, they don't have to marry someone of the same sex! I don't go up to people and ask them why they're straight, why should they have any say in why I'm gay and what decisions I should make about MY lifestyle?

Right on! (y)

Did anyone see the episode of Wife Swap where one of the families was a lesbian family? I could NOT believe the woman from the other family. She was an African American and she made a comment like this: "You can pretend not to be what you are, when I can't!" And was basically saying that gay people have it easy because it's something you can conceal, differently from race. I thought she was a very mean person.

I myself am straight , but i have many freinds who are gay , they are my freinds because of who who they are as people not because of their effin sexuality . Should that evan be an issue, NO

I think it's a human right to be able to marry the one you love. Everyone has the right to those security things that comes with leagal marrige like legacy and all that.

The Bible has a strong love message so why not?
