Chapter 27: About Tonight
.
Vaughn decided to take a long walk. He needed to sort things out. This was all

very new to him. He hadn't ever felt so many things for one person. He was worried

about her constantly. He wanted to protect her, to hold her, and keep her at his

side. He wanted to let her know how much he cherished their time together, how

much he thought about her, how angry he was with the people who had control of

her life. How he wanted to touch her when she was around him, although he was

pretty sure she knew. He knew this was big, but he wasn't ready to admit love. He

hadn't admitted he loved anyone since high school and then he knew now it was just

hormones.

Sydney was sitting at home thinking the same things. She had really thought

she was in love with Danny. She figured she had loved him, cared about him, but it

was never this intense, heart wrenching, desperate need. She wasn't sure that was

love either, but it was on its way.

Francie walked in and interrupted her thoughts.

"Hey Sydney, what was the deal with you and that Michael guy? It looked like

you really hit it off, but you both cleared out so early. I figured you both snuck off to

his place or something. Why are you here when he was so into you?"

"We both have work in the morning. And it was just the end of the night. I've

had a very full day."

"Yeah honey, why don't you go to bed?" Francie leaned over Sydney on the

couch and gave her a hug.

"I think I will, how was Eric?"

"I got his number. He's a sweetie."

"You, he is?" Sydney stumbled, "That's great. Okay, I'm going to bed."

Sydney curled up in her sheets as Vaughn answered his cell phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey man, I think I made a mistake."

"Eric, what did you do to Francie?"

"I gave her my number. I hope I didn't just mess things up for Sydney."

"I wouldn't worry too much. She's Sydney's friend who knows nothing about

her involvement in the CIA or SD-6. If it's an issue you will hear about it from Jack

Bristow. He's in the process of building a whole safe zone for Sydney."

"Nice. What's the deal with the two of you? You were all lovey-dovey and then

you both split." Eric paused, "Dude, are you with her right now?"

"No, no, we both went in separate directions when we left. We couldn't do that,

man."

"Too bad. You both have it bad."

"I know."

"You know?"

"Yeah, I um, we kissed."

"You kissed her and you didn't tell me!"

"Twice, I didn't know what to say. The first time was on the mission. I figured

it was because we needed a cover. It felt like more, but I wasn't sure."

"You kissed her a second time. Was it tonight? When? Where?"

"When I went to the bathroom."

"You snuck off to the bathroom to make out with a girl?"

"No. I was walking out and we walked into each other. We talked for a couple

seconds and one thing led to another. It was amazing."

"She feels the same way?"

"Yeah. It's going to kill me."

"Oh, yeah, that whole being on the secret side of the double agent thing really

sucks."

"Yeah."

"So we just have to take these guys down fast. We have a lot of information.

Do it for love, man. It'll be like a movie. You can secretly meet until then."

"You're getting soft."

"So aren't you."

"Yeah, anyway, Eric I should go. I have a call coming in. Probably the crew

calling to say my reports are in."

"Okay, I'll see you later."

"Later."

Okay, this story has taken on a mind of its own. I have totally lost the course. The outline has been tossed out the window, so what you guys are seeing is stuff that shocks me as I write it. It's kind of weird, like reading a fic as it comes on the screen. Anyway, just thought you'd like to know I'm quite surprized everytime I update too. On with the story.

Chapter 28: Getting To Know You

The incessant knocking on Sydney's door drew her from her sleep where she

had been dreaming of finding Arvin Sloane in a dark alley and shooting him. It'd

certainly be convenient for her.

"Sydney are you awake?" Francie intruded.

"How couldn't I be?" Sydney grumped in reply.

Francie walked into Sydney's room, taking her answering as an invitation.

"This is crazy. Our phone has been ringing off the hook since seven this

morning. All for a pizza place. It's ridiculous. Who wants pizza that early in the day?

And why keep calling here?" She lamented as she sat next on her friend's bed.

Sydney sat up and jumped out of bed.

"Well, since I'm up, I think I'll go for a jog. While I'm out just leave the phone

off the hook. They can leave a voice mail if it's important."

Francie smiled. "You're a genius!"

"I try. Now if you can leave me for a minute, I can get dressed."

Francie stood up and patted Sydney on the shoulder before leaving. When

Francie shut the door, Sydney let out a soft squeal.

She ran at a rapid pace, getting to the warehouse as fast as possible. She

hadn't realized how warm it was until she stepped in the door, noticing her lack of

deodorant. She walked into the area where her and Vaughn were to meet. His face

cracked into the biggest smile she had ever seen. He opened his arms to give her a

hug. She sheepishly wrapped her arms around him, hoping he didn't notice just how

hard she ran to get there.

"Ran here, eh?" He asked when he pulled back.

"Is it that bad?" She frowned.

"Is what bad, you just look like you could use a drink." He kissed her forehead

before producing a bottle of water. "Here take mine, I carry one where ever I go."

"Thanks."

They settled on opposite sides of the room while they went over the mission

reports. Their eyes locked from time to time a blush would cross one or both of their

faces each time.

"Now Sydney, about last night, the mission, we've done some things. I care

about you. I don't want you to get hurt." Vaughn looked at his hands.

"I don't want you to get hurt either." She stepped toward him, placing her

hand on his cheek. "We can't do this, can we?"

Both their expressions darkened. They looked into each other's eyes. Drawing

the strength he needed from Sydney, he continued, "We can't do what we've been

doing, no." He nuzzled her hand, kissing it when he got the chance. "I think that

Weiss had a great idea though. We can use our time together to, uh, be together."

"You know, you're adorable when you're aren't sure of yourself." Sydney

complemented.

"You know you're beautiful when ever I see you. Even at your absolute

smelliest," He laughed. "You are perfect."

"I do smell that bad, huh?"

"Nah, I can live with my eyes watering for a kiss." He smiled as his lips met

hers. They spent more time like this than they could keep track of. When they

pulled apart Sydney was giggling.

"What?" Vaughn asked a bit self-conscious.

"I just feel like I'm back in high school. Sneaking around with a boy so my

father won't catch me."

"You think we can make this work? We stop now and wait until we take down

SD-6. I mean, I will wait. I would wait a lifetime to feel like this." He paused. "I, uh,

I'm moving too fast, huh? Saying too much." Vaughn stated.

"Normally, I would say yes. I have never felt this way though. I just don't

know how fast is too fast right now. I don't know. I just don't know." Sydney said in

total honesty. "I don't even know you. Well, I know you, but it's like I can anticipate

everything you say or feel. And I know virtually nothing about you. You know

everything about me from what I gave to the CIA, that is my life for the past

several years."

His lips lifted, "Ask me anything. I'm an open book. I'm actually pretty boring."

Sydney laughed knowing this was going to be a fun morning, even if she was a

little past ripe.

Chapter 29: Wishin' and Hopin' and Dreamin' and Prayin'

Vaughn sat quietly in his living room. His life seemed sweeter already. He had

talked with Sydney for hours. They had decided that they could take things slowly

and he had never felt a bigger rush. He was looking at this as a journey. Every step

he'd be taking he'd be getting closer to a life together with Sydney.

He had been working on a timetable. He guessed that within a year or two

they would take down the whole Alliance. Jack had been working on this since the

early nineties. With Sydney's help, they would be able to get a little more

aggressive. He hoped that it wouldn't be any longer than that. He was ready to

parade around now, shout to the world that he was with her.

He laughed softly. Vaughn's mind drifted to his plans for when they were free.

He wanted to bring her to a Kings game, to that really nice restaurant on the water,

to meet his mother.

His mother would fall in love with Sydney. She was everything his mother had been

looking for, for him. She would see how kind and gentle she was. She would admire

Sydney's strength and her beauty. They were very similar in that respect. His

mother had been the most important woman in his life for so long. He figured that

they would have to hit it off. He loved, did he think love, them both so much.

Vaughn got up off the couch. He was moving too fast and he was alone. He decided

to call Weiss and tell him what happened. He had been pushing him to go for it, but

when she dialed Eric's number it was busy. That was odd. Weiss wasn't ever on the

phone.

Sydney sat in traffic, trying to call Francie. She threw her phone down when for the

third time she didn't get an answer. Francie must be talking to Eric. She was pretty

sure that was a bad idea. She would have to ask her father about that. Although it's

just her friend that's dating the guy from the CIA and Sydney wasn't supposed to

know that they're not part of the CIA. And Francie had no idea of anything that was

going on. It shouldn't be a problem.

This could open some possibilities for her and Vaughn too. If SD-6 asked her, they

could've been set up on a blind date. She was supposed to be black ops, so she

would have to keep her cover with him too. If she was still supposed to be in the

dark, it would be a boon really.

She smiled. Maybe things weren't so bad. Michael could bring her out on that date

they had discussed. Then he wouldn't be able to be her handler. That bothered her.

Sydney couldn't think of another person she would trust with her life in those

situations. She was going to have to do a lot of pleading with her father.

They had never been close. This new twist made things interesting. They were both

in the same business. Working in the same circles and neither knew and they were

supposed to be the best of the best. She would have to do some digging to find out

how that was possible. In all honesty, she needed to sit down and talk to her father.

Why was he in a CIA hospital when he was on an SD-6 mission? Where were the

SD-6 agents for that matter. That was going to drive her crazy until she found out.

Now was not the time though. She had to be at a meeting with Arvin Sloane in less

than an hour and the traffic wasn't moving an inch.
