Chapter 19

“Are you ok, honey?” Sydney asked her fragile daughter.

“I’m sorry. I never meant to get you involved in this or for this to happen. I….”

“Aryen, it’s ok. We wouldn’t have done this for anyone else, but you’re our daughter. We couldn’t let you go alone. Your father and I just wanted to protect you and keep you safe.”

“But he might die because of me. They both might and all because of some stupid prophecy.”

“That’s not your fault. We all care about you and don’t want anything to happen to you.”

“I know, but if I wasn’t here none of this would be happening.”

“Aryen, you can’t!”

“Can’t what?”

“I know exactly what you are thinking and you can’t. I won’t let you.”

“It may be the only way to save them. Isn’t that worth the risk?”

“NO! Not if it risks your life and gives Sark what he wants it isn’t. They need you to fulfil the prophecy so as long as you’re with us that will never happen. They may have done this to Alex and Vaughn, but that doesn’t mean you should give in to them.”

Aryen understood what her mother was saying, but still if there was something she could do to help them then that was what was what she was going to do. Of course she wasn’t going to tell Sydney that.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Sydney was sitting on the edge of Vaughn’s bed, holding his hand. She so desperately wanted him just to wake up. She needed him with her. He was the one who gave here strength and at the moment she felt completely emotionally drained.

“Please Vaughn, just wake up. Please.” She begged him, but thee was no response. After the toxin Vaughn and Alex had been injected with it was unlikely for them to wake up without the antidote. This was something only the covenant could provide. Before Sark had fled he had offered Aryen an exchange: her life for theirs.

Aryen was standing outside peaking through the crack in the door at her parents. They were both so helpless. She just wanted to save them; save them all. The only way she knew how to do that was to leave and find Sark. She turned around and went straight for the nearest exit. She jumped into her car and drove to the nearest airport.

Back in Vaughn and Alex’s hospital the alarms on the life support began to go off. Alex was slipping away into a deep coma. It was only a matter of time before Vaughn experienced the same fate.

Chapter 20

The next day

In Sydney Aryen was waiting for her meeting with Sark. He had told her to sit outside a little café and wait for him. She had been there for ten minutes. He was late, which Aryen didn’t take as a good sign. She was worried he was going to double cross her, but she had a plan just in case he tried anything.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sydney woke up in her chair draped over Vaughn’s sleeping body. It took her eyes a while to adjust. She hadn’t slept much in the past couple of days, so was glad of the sleep. She looked around and noticed there Aryen wasn’t anywhere to be found. Come to think of it she hadn’t seen Aryen since the previous night when she had gone home to get cleaned up.

Sydney slowly rose from her chair and walked over to open the door.

“Have you seen the girl who was here yesterday?” She asked one of the nurses as they were just walking past.

“Do you mean Aryen?” The nurse, Charlie asked. In the time Aryen had been at the hospital Charlie had been the main nurse taking care of Alex and Vaughn. She had formed a friendship with Aryen and tried to take care of this poor girl who was obviously going through a lot having both her father and lover in hospital.

Sydney nodded. “No. I haven’t seen her since she dashed out of here last night.” Charlie replied. That’s when it hit Sydney. She realised exactly what Aryen had done.

“Oh thanks. Can I use your phone?” Charlie escorted Sydney to the nearest payphone. Sydney fumbled around in her purse putting the coins into the slot and quickly dialled Aryen’s cell phone. It continued to ring for a while.

“Hello?” Aryen finally answered.

“Aryen where are you?” Sydney asked concerned. She hoped she wasn’t where she thought she was.

“Ummmm…well I’m……” Aryen stuttered. She didn’t know whether she should tell her mother the truth or lie.

“You’re in Sydney are you?” She interrupted.

“Well……” Aryen decided to just tell her. There wasn’t exactly a lot her mother could do even if she did find out. “Yes. And I know what you are going to say. You are going to tell me I shouldn’t be doing this, but mom, I can’t just let them die! I love them too much to let that happen.” She replied tears forming once again.

“You shouldn’t be doing this. I don’t know if I could take loosing you both.”

“That is why I’m doing this. At least…At least now you will have someone.”

“Please Aryen don’t do this. Just come home and be safe.”

“I can’t. I’m sorry mom.” Then she hung up.

Sydney began to cry even harder. She had had everything she had ever wanted, the man she loved and a beautiful daughter. Now she could loose them both, which sacred her so much.

------------------------------------------------

Just as Aryen got off of the phone she saw Sark walking towards her.

“Ah Aryen it is so lovely to see you again.” His voice made Aryen skin crawl. She just wanted to kill him right there on the spot, but she thought better of it. She knew that however much Sark annoyed her he was the only one who could give her what she needed.

“So have you got the antidote?” Aryen asked flatly.

“Don’t worry. We will get to that. First I need something from you.”

“No. First we deal with Alex and Vaughn then we can talk about what YOU want from me.” Aryen was not about to be screwed over.

“As you wish.” He took out his phone and called Rachael. He told her to deliver the antidote to the CIA.

“Now I need you to come with me.” He said as he got up and grabbed her arm. She couldn’t believe he was touching her. She just wanted to use some of the moves her mother had taught her but knew it wasn’t a good idea as she could see Sark’s men located all around them watching her. So she did has he said and walked off with Sark.

Sark had every intention of honouring his agreement with Aryen he would give the CIA the antidote as long as it meant he could get Aryen. He wanted them to try and find her just so they could watch her die.
